SEATTLE - Modern hunters rarely become more famous than Jim Zumbo. A mustachioed, barrel-chested outdoors entrepreneur who lives in a log cabin near Yellowstone National Park, he has spent much of his life writing for prominent outdoors magazines, delivering lectures across the country and starring in cable TV shows about big-game hunting in the West.
Zumbo's fame, however, has turned to black-bordered infamy within America's gun culture -- and his multimedia success has come undone. It all happened in the past week, after he publicly criticized the use of military-style assault rifles by hunters, especially those gunning for prairie dogs.

It was the editor in chief of Outdoor Life who had accepted (reluctantly?) JZ's resignation.
Here's where to find it: After going to the link at the top of this thread, look near the very of the article (2nd page) for the following:
"Jim is a good guy, and I feel bad about this unfortunate situation," Smith said. "We are living in very delicate times. For someone to call these firearms 'terrorist' rifles, that is a flash-point word. You are painting a bunch of enthusiasts with the word. They don't like being called terrorists."
What is with this LIKE? What part of "we don't deserve being called something we're not" doesn't this effing moron get?
Had he said "They don't deserve being called terrorists." Mr. Smith would have been defending us.
But instead, by saying that American gun-owners "don't like being called terrorists," I think he revealed too much. Mr. Smith's words sound like he's comparing us to Al Qaeda which doesn't like being called terrorists either even though that is what they actually are. Al Qeada earned the word Mr. Smith!
Either these people just don't get it, or that is the thinking they must have before they can get a job in any old style media (especially one like Outdoor Life that is owned by Time Inc).
Well, I do the same thing, and it IS a boycott. If they work towards destroying my country, I won't contribute to their income.
P.S. With reference to singers whose records I no longer buy, high on the list is Tony Bennett, that left-wing POS. He contributes bigtime to the Democratic Party. Well, it won't be with my money.
The .223 is a type of .22 caliber. It is not a high power caliber. They are NOT machine guns. Have you ever shot at something that small a hundred or more yards away? Apparently NOT. Would you FEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLL better if I used my ..............................22 magnum semi auto or bolt action rifle. PLUS YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT. WE are speaking about the 2nd AMendment and it IS NOT about HUNTING>
In 1968 the Kongrss banned "destructive devices" including anything over .5 cal However, they didn't keep the police from arming up
There are hunters, there are assault weapons owners and then there are cowboy action shooters. The last time I looked the SASS badges were up in the 60,000. These are folks with play money to burn and a close eye on the Second Amendment. As far as hunting guns costing a lot of money price a first generation Colt single action or an old Winchester lever action rifle. Cowboy action shooters have the passion and the money to burn.
the Brady bunch used his comments within the hour. Literally they will continue to do so as long as it suits them,Zumbo is sadly by his own efforts TOAST!
You don't get it. The cops need kind of vehicle in case they have to run over a house because someone might be growing the wrong plants inside.
Japan's leaders were terrified of the idea of invading America (although they were considering the possibility). They correctly foresaw "a sniper rifle behind every blade of grass".
Never underestimate the power of 10,000,000 practiced shooters who can never be massed in a single location.
Try dynamite it works every time.
Enjoy.
Your ignorance of hunting is beyond words.
You can still own cannons. Some owners get together and have cannon shoots.
There are so many misrepresentations in that piece, some of them outright lies, that it would be difficult to know where to begin to refute them. This event provided an excellent vehicle for lying publicly about the aims and efforts of the NRA.
Can I own an artillery piece? Where would I buy one and where would I get the ammo?
You are a pinhead. You decided a sneer and insult was a fitting repost. A principled man would've stood up and defended his words.
Nah, found the photo on the Internet and thought it was "purty."
Are you ATF?
Yes I just can't understand why our government needs military equipment to keep us inline.
Trying to zumbo yourself?
Plenty of people shoot prairie dogs at long distances with their rifles. A .22lr or slingshot are not long distance weapons. Accurized AR's are great for "varmint" hunting and are widely used. For about $1,000 (not counting glass) you (well, not YOU) can get a sub MOA rifle that can accept a 20 round mag (because 30's can cause trouble when prone).
Why give people crap when they've selected what many think is the best rifle for the job?
There wasn't supposed to be any need, at least it wasn't intended when our government was founded. In fact, the 2nd Amendment was to make certain we could keep the government inline.
I thought irradiated was the wave of the future.
