Giuliani's problem with the religious [large graphics]

Posted on 02/18/2007 4:12:23 PM PST by Jim Robinson

I don't know about you, but I doubt the Christian conservatives throughout the red state farm belt and especially down in the South are going to cotton to a liberal New York Yankee coming down to try to clean up crime by taking their guns and bringing abortion and gay unions (gay marriage) into their families, schools and churches.

And you believe the only real alternative in the general--the Stalinist--is not infinitely worse, why?

And you believe the only real alternative in the general

Logical fallocy, given that Rudy is NOT the only real alternative in the general. To the contrary, he would give the Clintonistas just what they want - a divided GOP. And no need to worry about losing pro-life and pro-gun Dems.

Jim, you are 100% right on the money. I salute you, sir.

This is EXACTLY why Campaign Rudy must be stopped right now. His defeat in a national election would be catastrophic for the GOP--It'll turn back the clock 30 years on the gains we've made in the South.

Most of the Rudy threads generation a like amount of interest. Hunter...not so much.

Maybe because the Hunter threads don't put forth such an objectional candidate as rudy. People have a tendency to rail against what is wrong, but smile and enjoy what is right.

Why do you want the "Stalinist" to win, Mia T?

I feel better now! :-)

As I've said before, at this point in time I've only made 1 decision on the 08 race...it will be a cold day in hell before I support or vote for John McCain! He will say and do anything to get the Whitehouse, I just don't trust him.

Some run to do things...some run to be someone, and he's the latter.

Well, how many single-issue abortion voters are there?

Probably not a huge number if the candidate is like George W. Bush--who at least claimed to be pro-life even though many had their doubts. For a candidate like Rudy who has been stridently pro-abortion--worse than many Democrats--there's no wiggle room. He's anathema based on that position and I for one will NEVER vote for him. And I'm moderate in my circles.

Many other pro-lifers will be actively working against him and the GOP if he (spit!) gets the nomination. Is that really where we want to be as a party?

You got me. I'm as bad as Giuliani.

Barely 3% of abortions are done to save the life or protect the health of the mother. 1% are for rape and incest. The other 96% are for convenience, gender selection, etc. We can work to end that 96% and also see if there are ways to protect the lives of the mother AND the child in the 3% where that is a consideration.

Has Newt ever held an executive position?

'Image problem' is an understatement, wagglebee. And his physical presence only exacerbates the problem. And I don't think women will ever forgive him for what he did to his cancer-ridden wife. Speaking as a woman, that's a deal-killer... (along with his feckless method of clinton-confrontation-by-curtseying). Newt repeatedly and reflexively submits to the clintons when he is supposed to confront them.

Speaking of which, Newt is resuscitating hillary clinton's moribund health-care credibility even as we debate this. They are collaborating on some arcane healthcare conceit or other.

You Rudyphiles sure are good at ignoring the FR polls.....

#1 I'm not a 'Rudyphile'

#2 I stand by what I said:

"Thankfully, though, FR will have no impact on the 2008 election. As hard as some here will work against the Republican nominee, the majority here understand the stakes, and will work twice as hard to see him elected."

#3 If you think an FR Poll is in anyway indicative of post 9/11 real world conservatives, well... there's your trouble.

I am discussing the hypothetical matchup of Rudy v hillary. When i say hillary, aka, the stalinist, is the only real alternative to Rudy, what I am arguing is that if you vote 3rd party, or sit home, you are placing a de facto vote for hillary.

What I am saying is that all the other apparent options (3rd party, or sit home) are just that: Apparent. They are illusions. You delude yourself if you think you are doing something other than voting for hillary when you punt with those other so-called options.

Why don't the Southern Baptists support church schools or home schooling - why the insistence on sending kids to public schools ?

If the Baptists were to get on board with the "get them out" movement, we might just get a lot further along on the path to cleaning up the dens of iniquity that are public schools.

You got me. I'm as bad as Giuliani.

Now you're being honest. I can respect that.

I believe the life and the health of a living breathing mother takes precedence over the unborn. Period. Always.

Which makes you pro abortion. And ample reason why pro life folks should take anything you have to say with a large grain of salt when you wax poetically about who we should or should not support.

No, you are doing much more than that. You are claiming Rudy is the only choice we have. So not only are you being nonsensical, you can't even keep track of your own posts.
