With the bare fact being that no Republican in recent memory has been able to win a major contest without at least the tacit backing of the religious right, Rudy Guliani might be trying to buck that trend.

What evidence is there that Rudy will really appoint people like that? His track record suggests that his promises about judicial appointments are lies. Ambitious politicians lie all the time, especially when they have no scruples, and someone who won't even oppose partial-birth abortion (a.k.a. infanticide) has no scruples at all.
My tag line is just cheap advertising space ;)
I like Jimmy Buffett too.
Rudy will never appeal to the far left, unless he adopts a cut-and-run position on Iraq, Iran, etc.
Liberals know that a hard-core Demonrat like Hillary, Obama, Gore, etc. is even better than a RINO, so Rudy will not pull any new voters from the left. I will make a bet right now that he won't even carry New York against Hillary. He will certainly lose enough conservative votes to doom the GOP.
There is no evidence. Rudy is merely providing lip service, hoping to fool more Republicans into his RINO trap.
Amen!
I'm not sure thats good advice. Besides being harsh and severe, that is. As evidenced by California, the more the whackydoddles, (of any stripe), moan, whine and spew venom at Arnie the more popular and secure Arnie is. This could be Rudy's vehicle, too. Distance himself from these extreme embarrassments in order to please the dirty, unshaven, uneducated and wishy washy middleground. You can't win without the capturing the middleground.

Well maybe not a huge percentage, but enough.
My sister lives in a part of Seattle where every house has bumper stickers and signs in thier windows saying "impeach bush" "no blood for oil" etc.
she and her friends are so far left they are just shy of jumping on the DUmp truck.
If these folks are even debating rudy and hillary (if they are the end result of the primaries) that is bad.
I dont think they like the war at all (obviously) but many on the far left hate hitlery even more.
Nah, that title of whining immature voters goes hands down to the 'libertarian' brats who proved in 2006 that they could turn the nation over to the enemy if not given their way.
Reminds me of my meeting with some New York Republican activists back in 1996. They told me that Colin Powell would be the nominee in 2000. When I asked them how the Christian conservatives could support a pro-choice politician, they told me "well, who the hell else are they going to support?:
FOOOD!!
See ya later, im going to head out and do some shopping:-)
Well then, why should Giuliani be dismissed at all?
He appeals to the middle grounders...as 68grunt correctly suggests is necessary to win.
The country is approaching a fork in the road that if not chosen correctly, will be our demise as a free and viable republic.
Liberalism MUST BE DEFEATED!
Best reasonable guess I've seen so far ... there are likely millions of catholic voters (for instance) who would prefer not to vote fot hildebeast but feel uncomfortable votiing for conservative values, so Rudy would be a viable 'reaganesque' alternative. Past landslides must have had something similar at play.
Liberalism must be defeated, but it will not be defeated by choosing liberal candidates in conservative clothing. The grass roots and primaries need to be taken seriously, so that we can have a real choice in the next election. I don't want a contest between Hilary and Hilary light.
A boulder now blocks Rudolph W. Giuliani's path to the White House: a nagging suspicion among conservatives that he is too liberal for the Republican presidential nomination.
Bingo.
