Clinton saw apology for war vote as insincere, aides say
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | February 18, 2007 | Patrick Healy, New York Times

Posted on 02/18/2007 7:21:32 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

One of the most important decisions that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., made about her bid for the presidency came late last year, when she ended a debate in her camp over whether she should repudiate her 2002 vote authorizing military action in Iraq.

Several advisers, friends and donors said in interviews that they had urged her to call her vote a mistake to appease anti-war Democrats, who play a critical role in the nominating process. Yet Clinton herself, backed by another faction, never wanted to apologize -- even if she viewed the war as a mistake -- arguing that an apology would be a gimmick.

...."... advisers think she should've uttered the three magic words -- 'I was wrong' -- but she believes it's self-evident that the Senate Iraq resolution was based on false intelligence and never should've come to a vote," said Richard Holbrooke, the former U.N. ambassador and an adviser to Clinton on foreign policy.

....Clinton believes that reversing course on Iraq would invite the charge of flip-flopping that damaged Kerry or provoke the kind of accusations of political expediency that hung over then-Vice President Al Gore in 2000 and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, in the 1990s, several advisers said. She has argued to associates in private discussions that Gore and Kerry lost, in part, because they could not convince enough Americans that they were resolute on national security, the associates said.

Clinton's image as a strong leader, in turn, is critical to her hopes of becoming the nation's first female president. According to one adviser, her internal polling indicates that a high proportion of Democrats see her as strong and tough, both assets for a female candidate who is seeking to become commander in chief. Apologizing might hurt that image, this adviser said.

Yes, I listened to your little voice audio in your post. Her voice comes across as 'hard' and harsh too.

But the dems hear 'soft and nice', lol.

And that was way back in 2002 when Hillary echoed President George W, Bush's "With us or against us...."

And she said she personally checked out the WMDs and reasons to invade Iraq and met with Slick Willie's advisors who had researced it all.....

Now she says "was misled by Bush!" and never voted to authorize sending in troops into Iraq - just "diplomacy"

Hillary's videos and audios and TV Sunday show appearances back then and now will burn her forever

I'm just a little curious, when did the Klintoons start giving a damn about sincerity?

And now she says, 'we were misled by false information'.

And why was our intelligence not even better than it was? Maybe she should look at the Clinton administrations changes in intelligence sharing.

Gorlick's Wall, was it..

The old man and the Marine

One sunny day in 2008, an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench.

He spoke to the Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton."

The Marine replied, "Sir, Mrs. Clinton is not President and doesn't reside here." The old man said, "Okay," and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White Hous e and said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton".

The Marine again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mrs. Clinton is not President and doesn't reside here." The man thanked him and again walked away . . .

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same Marine, saying "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton."

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mrs. Clinton. I've told you already several times that Mrs. Clinton is not the President and doesn't reside here. Don't you understand?"

The old man answered, "Oh, I understand you fine, I just love hearing your answer!"

The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, "See you tomorrow. Sir"

Hell will freeze over before either of the Clintons will apologize to anyone for anything. Everything they have ever done in their lives has been a gimmick.

I thought Hillary and her loony left supporters said that Bush lied.

I think it is hilarious for these so called leaders to say "knowing what I know today". NO KIDDING! Hindsight is 20/20 for crying out loud.

The irony is that everything that truly matters - - Hillary's vote, the rationale behind that vote, and the war itself - - are secondary to Hillary's selfish politicial ambition. Everything is a political calculation to Hillary and the rest of the scumbags, and what's best for the country be damned.

If she gets elected, she, as did her beloved husband, will decimate the military and we will truly be a lost nation.

Will the real Hillary Clinton please step forward? She's trying to be the best Conservative, the best socialist, and the best communist all at the same time. .....she even tried being Jewish. Barrack Oboma has already claimed the Christian/Muslim thing.....so Hillary is trying to steal the "black" thing ...(after all, her husband Bill is African American - or so he claims).

Hillary's "Pucker List" keeps growing. By the time she ends her campaign, she will have been under more desks than Moanica Lewinsky.
