This wisp of a notion is simply this: Maybe a Democrat should win in 2008.
Personally, I dont believe in this poltergeist, at least not yet. But every now and then, I must confess, I do shiver from its touch.
The idea goes something like this: If you believe that the war on terror is real really real then you think it is inevitable that more and bloodier conflicts with radical Islam are on the way, regardless of who is in the White House. If the clash of civilizations is afoot, then the issues separating Democrats and Republicans are as pressing as whether the captain of the Titanic is going to have fish or chicken for dinner. Theres a showdown coming. Period. Full stop. My task isnt to convince you that this view is correct (though I basically believe it is), but merely that it is honestly and firmly held by many on the right and by a comparative handful on the left.

Me too! I note the humor there....lol... NY minute.
I feel better now....phew!
Don't underestimate Hillary with all the Clinton ability to raise money. Hillary has the powerful Dem machinery and the MSM working for her.
Sorry I have use the wrong terminology. How about "encourage" him to run.
Glad to be of service. :0)
I think, but I am not sure, it might have been "The Beltway Boys" earlier today.
The same story applies for each democrat presidential candidate since the 1930's. As I said in an earlier post, many analysts are greatly underestimating Hillary Clinton terriblly nasty character and totally uncharismatic personality as the most important factors that will destroy her at an early stage of the campaign.
I have repeatedly explained, here, for months now, HOW politics works.
If you imagine that a handful of FREEPERS are able to convince someone to run, who has NO discernible interest in running...you're wrong.
Neither can some FREEPERS overturn the winner of the GOP primaries, if they aren't "happy" with who that is.
Nor can a few hundred ( and I doubt it is even THAT many ) FREEPERS make a bottom tier candidate a front runner and then the winner.
Didn't see the show. *shrugs*
I hope you are right about Hillary -- but remember how she won the NY Senate seat. That was a long shot by some estimations too.
So far she is running way ahead of everyone.
I can only hope you are right.
I'm pinching myself. That's the second time this week.
I think it would serve all of us well to not underestimate the enemy (Hillary).... I sure won't wait on the media to "let" her true colors shine through... in my book, it's a given that they will shill and cover for her.
We appear to have found an unusual amount of common ground, of late.
Thanks! My high regard for the Gentleman from Alabama remains unscathed.
Howard Dean was the number 1 in the democrats polls until the evening of Iowa caucus where he totally crushed and burned.
2002=2004.
"It's always darkest before the dawn", but I can't buy into championing more darkness because it will somehow magically bring on a new dawn.
Well, then we go with the process of eliminaion.
Giuliani - too liberal, lots of baggage, will drive away the Christian right and gun owners. There goes the south, there goes the presidency.
McCaine - ahem, you've got to be kidding me.
Romney - very doubtful, too many flip flops, unreliable, too much baggage to overcome.
Gingrich - will look at him if he decides to run. Some baggage, but good man.
Duncan - looks ok to me, solid conservative, patriot, some non fatal baggage, not much name recognition.
Tancredo - looks ok to me, solid conservative, solid on national security, don't know of any baggage, unpopular with Bush supporters, little name recognition.
Ron Paul - antiwar libertarian. No thanks.
Brownback - weak.
Huckabee - likable conservative, weak on border security. Wouldn't push the hottest issue besides the war.
Agree that we should not underestimate Hillary Clinton or any other democrat candidate. The liberal media can hide that much but eventually things will get out, remember that we have our media as well. The liberal media also hid every democrat candidate true colors in every election but the Republican won 7 of the last 10 presidential elections.
