I can sense it building day by day that Duncan Hunter is electable. At first, there were no DH threads, then there were a few and it was easy to read every comment on them here in FR. Now there are so many DH threads with so many comments that it takes a full day to read them all. Momentum is building by the hour.
If I don't know who he is or what he's done, then you have really tough sledding getting the average voter to know who he is and what he's done.
Doesn't sound like a feasible plan for winning in 2008 to go with an unknown.
He's not an unknown to most political savvy conservatives. I'm surprised someone who posts to FR knows so little about Duncan Hunter. Perhaps you should educate yourself about him before you say he has no chance. Of course, perhaps you are right, if there are many more like you out there, in particular if they claim to be Republicans, then Hunter probably doesn't stand much of a chance due to the ignorance of the voting public.
He was just on CNN's Late Edition yesterday, was on This Week a couple weeks ago. Has been on the morning political shows the last couple yrs and has been on Cavuto on Fox a couple times last month, has appeared on Fox and Friends a few times. He does make a showing on tv but you have to catch him because they are constantly pushing Rudy, McCain 24/7. He's been on Rush with guest host Roger Hedgecock also. Hopefully you'll get to catch him on tv so you can see the man we have been trying to get conservatives to take a look at. But definitely check out the first debate that is supposed to be in New Hampshire in April and you'll see the man is great.
LOL, that proves Hunter can have more of a base than Rudy will ever get while keeping conservatives.
And Plutarch, aren't you run who is rooting for Rudy? The same Rudy who has endorsed Bill Clintoon in '96 and compared himself as having similar politics??!!
run=one
Antoninus,
Please add me to the Duncan Hunter for President ping list
Thanks!
Nope. I support Romney, what you got on him?
WHere does he say he is 100% Prolife no exceptions whatsoever?? All I see is that he will push the pro-life agenda.
Check out his web site at www.gohunter08.com. His position is fully stated there.
This is likely to happen.
2) President Bush asks Dick Cheney to resign due to health reasons and nominates Duncan. Even if he doesn't get ratified, he gets the media name recognition.
Delusional.
3) Newt endorses him
Not going to happen
4) Duncan lines up some endorsements from Right-to-life groups, NRA, Focus on the Family. This is actually a better scenario for these groups than they realize because there is always so much jostling to try to figure out who is the front runner and then groups line up for endorsements. But if Hunter's candidacy proves to be a flameout, these groups would be able to pick another candidate later on to endorse, all the while generating the leverage for their causes.
Unlikely. All of the aforementioned groups would gladly support Hunter, however none of them are noted for early endorsements. Early endorsements are considered politically risky, as second endorsements rarely have the same impact.
5) Youtube, Macaca moments. That's probably what's going to determine this election cycle.
Unlikely. Everyone makes gaffs and Youtube will be filled with them all. To bank ahead of time that such gaffs will benefit one candidate over anohter is naive at best. Rudy could commit a true potato-e blunder that resonates, but so could Hunter or anyone else in the field.
6) He starts winning more straw polls like the one in McCain's home state.
Unlikely at best.
It seems every election year, some liberal politician dons an NRA cap and grabs a shotgun for a hunting photo-op, as if that means they support our right as Americans to keep and bear arms. ... But, the second amendment is not about hunting. It is about the right of you and me to be secure in our home...There's a certain LIBERAL GOP 'candidate' that would never do the first part and doesn't believe in the second part.
In fact this certain 'candidate' is actually PROUD of his past efforts to strip law abiding U.S. Citizens of their 2nd Amendment Rights. He even brags about it, really. Honest, I'm not kidding.
And what's amazing is that this liberal actually thinks he can BE the GOP nominee. What's MORE AMAZING is that there's a certain group of FReepers who are rooting for this LIBERAL.
It's utterly bizarre.
Thank you for keeping us posted. At least we have one candidate in Hunter that I can vote for without holding my nose.
Mr. Hunter needs to concentrate in Iowa NOW! Then move to the south,California, and midwest. The northwest is probably a looser for him. He has no chance of winning in the northeast. I see Iowa as being critical for Hunter. If he can make a good showing there,3rd or 4th, he may have a chance by gaining some name recognition. If he doesn't do well in Iowa I'm afraid he is lost.
That's a straw-man argument as 2008 is unlike any POTUS election in decades.
Last but not least...
It is? I can't find it. Post it please.
