Rep. Rohrabacher: Impeach Bush If Border Agents Killed
Newsmax ^ | February 9, 2007

Weeks after accusing President Bush of "shameful" behavior over the imprisonment of two Border Patrol agents who shot an unarmed suspected drug smuggler along the U.S.-Mexico border, a federal lawmaker turned up the heat further, suggesting the president should be impeached if the two men are killed in prison.

Speaking after the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that agent Ignacio Ramos was assaulted by inmates in his Mississippi prison at the weekend, California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher had a warning for the White House.

"I tell you, Mr. President, if these men - especially after this assault - are murdered in prison, or if one of them lose their lives, there's going to be some sort of impeachment talk in Capitol Hill," he said during a press conference in Washington, D.C.

"The president of the United States talks a lot about his Christian charity, and his religious beliefs," Rohrabacher said. "He now is showing a mean-spirited side to him, an arrogance, in which he will turn his back, even after one of these officers in prison has been brutally assaulted."

No it was not. The last time the US declared war was June 5, 1942 when we declared war on Bulgaria, Hungary & Romania. Iraq is a military engagement that was authorized by Congress, however war was not declared.

I'll bash Bush until the day he takes his trip back to Crawford. He is an embarrassment to TRUE conservatives.

Give me a major break. You are the REAL embarrassement to TRUE conservatives.

Bush is a great man and has done more for conservative causes than you can ever hope to.

We can thank knee-jerk Bush bashers like you for the Democrat Congress we are now saddled with.

I agree, we saw that coming when Sandy Berger got a tap on the wrist.

His $50,000 fine?

What a joke, he gets that for one speech. Now he's refusing to take the poly which he agreed to as part of his plea bargain. I predict he'll get away with that too.

Thank you!

The Bush bashers from the left and those from the right are coming together more and more.

And we can thank them both for a Democratic Congress and possibly a Dem in the White House in 2008.

After Pelosi, we have the President of the Senate Pro Tem and then Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice! I was reading recently that the order of sucession has been changed a few times in this century. After Rice, other cabinet members are now in line based on the date of them acquiring office. Ms. Rice must be the longest running cabinet member.

I believe that the sentence was outrageous and they should have gotten probation or simply lost their job. I hope Bush pardons them, but is it true what the prosecutor said:

1. Deadly force happens often on the border. 13 times last year. A report must be filed and use of deadly force investigated.

2. In almost all the cases, deadly force is held to be justified following an investigation.

3. The agents were convicted, NOT for shooting at the fleeing suspect, but for hiding the fact that a shooting even took place, even going so far as to police the scene for shell casings and blood.

4. Therefore, they are NOT innocent by virtue of simply doing their job. They covered up a shooting that might have been ruled justifiable.

5. The cover-up was presented to the jury as evidence that the agents believed that they had shot at an unarmed man, which is against the law.

So, these agents are NOT totally innocent.

Unfortunately, I think Bubba II is a near certainty and its one that this Bush White House has supposedly acceded to years ago. Look on the bright side, maybe Hillary will veto a spending bill, which GW has never seen fit to do.

Quit trying to place the blame outside where it lies. President Bush is to blame. We all voted for Republicans around here.

You effin "true" conservatives make me gag. There's nothing conservative about your type. And I'm sick to death at the way you all arrogate to yourselves the sole right to define who is and is not a conservative and Republican. I'm a lifelong Republican who can't stomach what I see on threads like this on.

Amen. And the fact remains that Mexican illegals have more incentive to get into this country than the Border Guards have in keeping them out and because of Bush's ignoring the issue, their incentive is getting less by the day.

Oh! shut up.. George Bush's handlers probably won't let him cut the agents loose..
This is much wider in scope than some lone Texan all by himself..

"You can't handle the truth".. probably describes most republicans here on free republic..
Thr Mexican government(Drug cartels) seem to have a very long arm..

The AWOL border debacle(s), this agent thing, and the Sandy Bergular whitewashing affair.. plus a hundred other whitewashings should even make the BUSHBOTS make noises like Scooby-DOO.. It don't... they don't WANT TO KNOW..

Its quite disgraceful and cowardly.. and probably treasonous.. at least seditious..

The reasons are many. Here's one speculation. Maybe he's buying the election for his nephew George Bush III (Jeb's hispanic son) 20 years down the road. In which case GWB's "hands off" behavior would be explained...they need the voting block.

GWB is so gunho since 9/11 and willing to commit military force on anybody remotely looking like a terrorist around the world. Speech after speech the point is made also. There is a massive disconnect in the logic of prosecuting the war on terror. The inconsistency is just too large when you leave a 700 mile wide hole in your defenses yet fight only in the middle east. I'm not a military "strategerieist", but I have always known that securing the base camp was high up on the list along with communications and shelter.

...but is it true what the prosecutor said

No. I'll just give you one example.

Sutton (from your post): The agents were convicted, NOT for shooting at the fleeing suspect, but for hiding the fact that a shooting even took place, even going so far as to police the scene for shell casings and blood.

Reality:

On the civil rights and "tampering" charges (a. picking up shell casings--Compean only--and b. failing to verbally report to a supervisor that there was a shooting--even though he was well aware of it) Ramos and Compean were sentenced to 1 and 2 years respectively for all charges.

BUT... for Use Of A Firearm In Relation To A Crime Of Violence, Assault With A Dangerous Weapon and Assault With Serious Bodily Injury, they got 10 YEARS each. It was characterized as these two going on a killing spree and not just excessive force in the course of attempting to arrest the alien.

Sutton lies.

"...but the real problem is Bush & Homeland Security."

Pretty clear to most everyone, other than the party-above-principle Big Tent GOP RINOs.

Garbage. You must be new to these boards.

Anybody who was here during the run-up to the 2006 elections knows well the vows made by many not to support Republicans.

The Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 was a Constitutional declaration of war.
