Rep. Rohrabacher: Impeach Bush If Border Agents Killed
Newsmax ^ | February 9, 2007

Weeks after accusing President Bush of "shameful" behavior over the imprisonment of two Border Patrol agents who shot an unarmed suspected drug smuggler along the U.S.-Mexico border, a federal lawmaker turned up the heat further, suggesting the president should be impeached if the two men are killed in prison.

Speaking after the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that agent Ignacio Ramos was assaulted by inmates in his Mississippi prison at the weekend, California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher had a warning for the White House.

"I tell you, Mr. President, if these men - especially after this assault - are murdered in prison, or if one of them lose their lives, there's going to be some sort of impeachment talk in Capitol Hill," he said during a press conference in Washington, D.C.

"The president of the United States talks a lot about his Christian charity, and his religious beliefs," Rohrabacher said. "He now is showing a mean-spirited side to him, an arrogance, in which he will turn his back, even after one of these officers in prison has been brutally assaulted."

"I've lost all respect for Rohrabacher".

And I've lost what little respect I had left for Bush.

You may not like it, but there is nothing in the Constitution that prevents impeachment during a military action.

So, I gather you're in favor of it?

The president wouldn't dare do anything to offend his overlord and master, the president of Mexico.

Pardoning these two border patrol officers would definitely offend El Presidente Calderon.

..I hope everything will be reviewed

I hope everything is reversed

And I hope everyone using the word "impeachment" will apologize...

Seems your foil headgear is fitting a wee bit too snug.

Not going to happen. If the hands of time could be turned back, I don't think Bush would have a strong enough backbone, or intestinal fortitude to do what it takes to fix the border/immigration issue.

We went through this yesterday with Rohrabacher. He is disgusting for this suggestion, as if Bush somehow has responsibility for what goes on in the federal prison system. This thread just shows that DU doesn't have the market cornered on wing-nuts. And apparently, all of the idiots are not just on the left side of the aisle in Congress either.

For all you arm chair lawyers here, how about letting the appeals process play out, and then, if the President feels pardons are in order, I'm sure he will consider these two cases.

but these two guys are in general population and one has already been beaten by incarcerated illegals

Only one of the two Border Guards was in general population. The second Border Guard (not beaten) requested protective segregation. The Border Guard that elected not to be segregated was foolish in his decision.

Please note that I'm one of the strongest proponents of closing the border. At this point the general public does not know the whole story behind the Border Guards and should be cautious in throwing around the idea of impeachment or pardons. ( Believe me, I am not a Bush supporter.)

Impeach him for what?   For not pardoning two men that received due process?  For abiding by what a jury determined to be the truth?  Anyone that really thinks these guys were tried unjustly is full of beans. What the heck would be the point?  Oh let's just go out and grab a couple of law abiding lawmen and run them up the flag pole in favor of an illegal. For crying out loud Dale, get over it.

..please Mr. President--do the right thing...

I withdraw my statement

The legal process must be allowed to continue--the President is not a king.

A stricter national security policy at the border is something that can originate from the White House...

The poor man has no concept of what is going on & if he does & is allowing it then it's even worse.

It's the latter.

Finally a voice of reason!

I'm sick to death of reading these knee-jerk rants.

Bush's approval ratings are in the high 30's. If he does nothing about this case and goes ahead with his open borders, no fence and amnesty program, his ratings will collapse to single digits.

I called Rohrbacher's local district office today and told them I could not support his statements about impeaching the President over something that has nothing to do with the presidency. I asked them to remember there are life-long Republicans like me out here who do not agree with the hard right on this issue. I asked if the congressman still believes in Constitutional separation of powers. Also asked if he wants this or any president to reach out and release or pardon or get involved in every case that some pressure group turns into a cause celebre.
