Weeks after accusing President Bush of "shameful" behavior over the imprisonment of two Border Patrol agents who shot an unarmed suspected drug smuggler along the U.S.-Mexico border, a federal lawmaker turned up the heat further, suggesting the president should be impeached if the two men are killed in prison.
Speaking after the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that agent Ignacio Ramos was assaulted by inmates in his Mississippi prison at the weekend, California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher had a warning for the White House.
"I tell you, Mr. President, if these men - especially after this assault - are murdered in prison, or if one of them lose their lives, there's going to be some sort of impeachment talk in Capitol Hill," he said during a press conference in Washington, D.C.
"The president of the United States talks a lot about his Christian charity, and his religious beliefs," Rohrabacher said. "He now is showing a mean-spirited side to him, an arrogance, in which he will turn his back, even after one of these officers in prison has been brutally assaulted."

This one smells like an Andy Card even though hes gratefully miles a way..(I hope).
Rohrabacher is out of line calling for impeachment in a time of war.
Agreed. Total insanity.
Isn't the case being reviewed? I know it's natural to support these guys, but there is some evidence that contradicts their version of events.
If the review is ongoing, perhaps we should wait until the end of this story is written before reaching conclusions.
Just a thought.
The border/illegal immigration is Dubya's penultimate failure (forget the crackpot notions that Iraq is). I still cringe every time he gets on tv and talks about the guest worker business. :-|
Quit bashing Bush over this!!
Many of you have lost all ability to remain objective.
While it 'seems' that there are many problems coming out about this case, nothing has changed the fact that these non-hero's got involved in a bad shooting and then tried to cover it up.
Other heads in the border patrol should roll, but these guys also made their own beds.
I agree with you. Bush's silence is the last straw for me. He's lost his backbone and is now kow-towing to Mexico and the Democratic party. What a disappointment.
Has anybody checked out the DUmmies or KosKidz to see if they are trying to facilitate this?
Nancy is second in line, you know.
You may not like it, but there is nothing in the Constitution that prevents impeachment during a military action. Also, by definition we are not "at war" since war was never declared.
"...but for those two Border Agents to be in federal prison over this is criminal."
Tried, convicted by a jury. Not by Bush.
Bush could commute their sentences. Rather than pardon.

No, I think Bush needs to stay in office. It will only take another two years before he completely ruins the conservative majority and the Republican Party.

Congressmen Rohrabacher and Jones aren't calling for the impeachment of Dick Cheney, just George Bush and how would such staunch conservatives as those two be in league with DUmmies or KosKidz?
I don't mind the case being reviewed, but these two guys are in general population and one has already been beaten by incarcerated illegals. IMO, they should be either out or in solitary pending appeal. They're gonna get killed in there.
As bad as Pelosi One is, this is more scandalous.
I don't like it either. W needs to step up and protect our citizens vs. drug runners.
I think Rohrabacher's impeachment statement maybe somewhat out of frustration, the same thing a number of us here at FR are feeling. It's been reported Bush recently pardoned a number of Mexican drug dealers and we know Clinton pardoned a number of guilty individuals just before leaving office so some of us are asking why Border Guards doing their job can't get the same consideration !!!
POE: In my own personal opinion, I don't think that is the answer to follow right now. I certainly don't. The border agents, we put the prison authorities on notice that they could be injured. And they were. You know, I was a judge forever. And prison people know how to take care of all inmates. That's one of the things they are taught. And they just disregarded simple procedures in protecting Ramos in this case. That's another question we want to find out the answer. To and they should be held accountable.
CULBERSON: I also -- agree with Judge Poe that this -- impeachment's not appropriate. I do think first of all we need to focus on making sure these two officers are given an appeal bond so that they can get out of prison until the appeal is complete.
Stop begging - he has already made up his mind to keep the borders open.
