Governor Perry has made a huge mistake in signing an executive order which mandates that all sixth-grade girls entering public schools by the fall of 2008 must be vaccinated for Human Papilloma Virus with Gardasil a product of Merck Pharmaceuticals.
A public debate in the Legislature should have preceded such a drastic move, all ……. careful consideration.
Parents are being told, "We do not expect nor believe that you will stay abstinent until marriage."
The decision to get young girls vaccinated for HPV is not an easy…. In less than a year since approval, 82 cases of serious adverse events following HPV vaccinations of Gardasil have been reported. These incidents should have been discussed thoroughly in open forum in the Legislature before any mandate was even considered.

HPV vaccine only covers 4 of 30 types of HPV which account for 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts. That still leaves 30% of cervical cancers and 10% of genital warts … not covered.
A definite drawback to Gardasil is that girls must get three full doses of the vaccine for it to be effective. How many families are going to understand the urgency of making sure their girls get three full doses over a six months' period of time?

What about if there was a vaccine for genital herpes, syphilis, or gonorrhea? Provided the vaccines were safe and there were no serious side effects, would you be in favor of forcing teenage girls to get this vaccination?

...the problem that you and a lot of Freepers are having with this is...WHERE'S THE LONG RANGE PROOF THAT THIS WOULD WORK IN THE 1ST PLACE!! Because the FDA says so?! This is all about the $$$. The side effects of such a vaccine are not being discussed. The long term effects of such a vaccine are not being discussed. Even if they were, the gummit has no idea.

There isn't a downside to the vaccination. The downside is the government ordering you to have your child be given the vaccination! Outrageous.
My girl is 33 and I don't recall it at all.

The mortality rate for cervical cancer is one half of one percent. Most of those cases were women who didn't have regular pap tests.
Of the 80% HPV infection rate, 70% clear up on their own.
Injecting the entire populace for something with a low mortality rate that can currently be achieved using less expensive methods?
Sounds like another one of Perry Pompadour's boondoggles.
