I am curious.
Would the same people oppose vaccinating children against HIV?

I think Rick Perry is getting a little too big for his britches.
First the Trans Texas Corridor, which is going to displace millions and cost more money than we can imagine. Then when they build that, they will steamroller north into other states that cannot afford nor want the Stupendopus Highway thought process implemented.

Now he is mandating that kids get vaccines the parents are upset about.
Why not make it voluntary, with the state paying for the shots?
Telling me or my kid that this is mandatory will have any kid of mine home schooling in a heartbeat.
I hope this vaccine is all they say that it is. That is a good thing, but no one knows what the long term effects are on it. Cramming it down my throat isn't going to fly.
No different than NAIS for all our animals.

If an HIV vaccine appeared on the market today I would be very leary of embracing it. It would take many years of testing to ensure that it is (1) effective, (2) safe, (3) not likely to cause mutation of more virulent and resistant superstrains of the virus.

It appears to me that Gardisil has been rushed to the market and Merck is running some very heavy promotion and marketing of this drug and now lobbying government to mandate its use.

The best way to avoid either HPV or HIV is to abstain from sex until marriage and then to remain faithful to one marriage partner. The fact that many people choose instead to engage in risky behavior should not mandate that everybody take a vaccination to protect against others' behavior.

Thats HPV not HIV, either way I don't see a problem in requiring shots in a public school. I don't think the stare should outright pay for it, but offer assistance as needed. I think ppl are just upset because the disease the shot prevents requires sex for it to be transmitted. Many parents are probably in denial that there 6th grader would engage in such activity, bu they do. Beyond that, we should vaccinate for many diseases, and I support the requirement.

It depends. If you know your child is not sexually active, then why give them a vaccine.

If the risks for the vaccine is high, and the benefits low then why give a child the vaccine.

If the vaccine has not been tested much on children, then why give them the vaccine.

Also, I absolutely would not make it mandatory because HIV is not an airborne disease. I can go into a room with a person with HIV and not catch it. Other illnesses like measle, you only have to be in the room with someone to catch it.

It's not the vaccine they are worried about, it's the asshat Perry mandating they do it that is making people mad.

He has overstepped and people are tired of it.

So far there has been 89 adverse reactions to this vaccine -- since June 2006. The odds of getting this cancer is very small compared to the odds of having an adverse health problem from the vaccination. People need to wake up to the facts about vaccines -- they are not benign and once administered they are in there and cannot be taken back.

I can only speak for myself but I oppose any politicain or state actor telling what must be done or not done for my kids. I know that parental rights and resonsibilities are hard to wrap your arms around in this day and age but there you have it.
