Last evening, as I watched the Superbowl with my nine year old son, I became extremely annoyed at the MARS Corporation and their advertisement for Snickers which showed two guys locking lips. I can't even fathom why somebody thought that this would be a good advertisement for that particular product and why they chose to air it during this event, especially when they knew children would be watching. If their aim was to draw controversy in the hopes of increasing sales, then I sincerely hope they missed their mark. I hope that, instead, they lose sales because of their idiocy.
I called in and registered my strong disapproval this morning at 1-908-852-1000. (If you call, when you get the phone tree, just press "0")
Our family will not be buying MARS products ... Products that MARS makes/distributes: M&M'S, SNICKERS, MARS bars, Milky Way, Skittles, and TWIX.
Well thank God they didn't show the guys sharing the candy bar with their other end.
(ewww, I can't believe I even thought of that)
I watched Puppy Bowl for an hour before the game started.
Cute.
But I thought Puppy Bowl ended once the game started. I didn't know it continued thru the entire game.
I think you're overreacting. It wasn't the funniest ad of the night, but it wasn't the worst either. Besides, if you're going to complain "for the children", wouldn't you be angrier about the Priceline juggies commercial?
"Yeah, hell of a game. Hell of a game. The Bears have a great team this year. They're gonna go all the way this year."
Mechanics should be outraged.
That was one of the best homo-panic gags in movie history.
Created by a Generation Y freak for Generation Z dolts, I suppose.
You'd think this group of ad folks "lost it" but that means they once "had it" which is obviously not the case.
The ad does have good name recognition, in a very NEGATIVE sorta way. I think I'll switch to another non-Mars candy bar.
Even worse, the Disney classic The Lady and The Tramp spaghetti scene.
I haven't watched a halftime show in many years. But then I don't usually watch the Super Bowl unless a team I'm interested in is playing (as in this year with the Bears...although I'm a Packer fan). The entertainment 'value' has been 'zero' in my book for a long time.
It only took my two successive commercials to make me 'clicker vote' and find Monk. That solved the problem very quickly.
I miss Bud Bowl.
"It was 2 mechanics working under hood of a car, one bites into a Snickers and the rest is sticking out of his mouth and the other guy bites into the other side of it and they chew to the middle when they accidentally touch lips. They both jump back and acknowledge that they accidentally kissed and need to do something to prove to each other and themselves that they aren't gay, so they each pull a wad of chest hair off their chests."
Sorry, I didn't watch it but if that is a fair description of it it was promoting queers.
No normal man would even think of trying to eat something from another mans mouth. NONE ZIP NADDA!
That is beyond insane to think anything like that could happen by accident.
I think Gays should be more than happy with the Pre-Game Show. It was worse than watching the opening of an Olympiad.
I thought it was hilarious. The moral lesson seemed to me to be that if you kiss another man, even by accident, it will be very, very painful. I can't see how anyone could seriously take that as a homo ad.
On the plus side, I know from experience that if you write to Mars, Inc., they will send you a coupon for a free package of candy bars.
So, to steal your comment from another thread:
"Dear M&M/Mars,
I was insulted by your ad. Next time use two chicks. And an eclair.
Please send me another coupon.
Larry"
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
I thought it was because the two guys looked dirty and that made me think of soap. Now, a bar of soap is not much different in size than a Snickers bar and that made me think of a bar of candy. I didn't have a Snickers bar so didn't really enjoy the whole rest of the game. (it could happen,LOL)
Christie Brinkley straight.
Billy Joel was horrid. The Bud Spot with "Spot" was the best of the night! A "Kick in the Head!"
