(Vanity) Do your school close on account of cold?
Posted on 02/05/2007 5:14:52 AM PST by yankeedame
I'm here in the Dayton, OH area. We are going through a blast of "dangerous" cold. Today 8 degree expected high, with wind chill of -10 to -15. Otherwise sunny.
I've got the radio on and I'm stunned the number of school closings! (Not to mention the slightly smaller number of "2 hour delays".)
Do you folks have this no-school-today-because-its-too-cold?

it isn't quite as cold here in the DC suburbs, in the low teens with a windchill pulling it down to single digits, but i did talk to my sisterinlaw in Warren, OH last night and she knew from then that they had cancelled school bc of dangerous cold.

Yep, all over the state of Indiana. Two hour delays and closings. I think the Super Bowl also provided a good excuse.

I'm reporting from Plymouth, Michigan. I just heard the bus stop across the street, so I guess no. (It's 6 below right now.)
To: yankeedame
It's four below here right now with a windchill of around 20 below. Yep, I've got my pita's home today.

I think mine closed because the bus drivers all called in so they could celebrate the Colts. Seriously.
To: yankeedame
Yes. I think part of it has to do with diesel buses.
Myself, I was thinking that herre in Indy they were using it as an excuse for a late start because of the Colts' win! LOL!

Schools here were two hours late. I can only assume it was because of the cold because there's no apparent reason other than that. I learned this by getting a call from my wife who was upset having heard it from the radio when she almost had the kids to school(it's a 30min drive).

2 hour delay - out here some of the little 'uns ride the bus for about an hour from the boondocks. So I guess it's kind of a humanitarian gesture.
Oh, and the Super Bowl.

Here in PA, some of the Allentown/Lehigh Valley schools posted two-hour delays for their schools, or cancelled their AM kindergartens.

My daughter is a 2nd grader in a Catholic school, and last week the Archbishop of Indianapolis declared that all Catholic schools within the Archdiocese were to be closed today on account of the Colts in the Super Bowl, win or lose. So she's enjoying sleeping in...no matter the weather!
