We do use books that call Jews 'apes' [and Christians as 'pigs' ] admits head of Islamic school
The principal of an Islamic school has admitted that it uses textbooks which describe Jews as 'apes' and Christians as 'pigs' and has refused to withdraw them.
Dr Sumaya Alyusuf confirmed that the offending books exist after former teacher Colin Cook, 57, alleged that children as young as five are taught from racist materials at the King Fahd Academy in Acton.
In an interview on BBC2's Newsnight, Dr Alyusuf was asked by Jeremy Paxman whether she recognised the books.
She said: "Yes, I do recognise these books, of course. We have these books in our school.

"Active Military Meets January Recruiting Goals; Retention Remains Strong"
By Sgt. Sara Wood, USA
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Feb. 12, 2007
After reading about the shootings on FR, I turned on the TV. Guess what was on three 'news' networks: Anna Nicole Smith! They (the media, and apparently, most Americans) care more about a dead playboy bunny, than innocent people being gunned down in a mall and Navy yard! I told my hubby, I guess they can't cover news in the US because all the reporters are in the Bahamas covering an "important" story!
(sorry for the rant!)
That's not a rant...you just know what I (and most commonsense Americans) are thinking, too.

Novelist Endangered by Her Book
New York Times ^ | February 10, 2007 | JULIE BOSMAN
Posted on 02/12/2007 11:53:15 PM PST by Lorianne
It is rarely a simple thing to be a novelist in Turkey. For Elif Shafak, it has never been more complicated.
Her sixth novel, The Bastard of Istanbul, was a runaway best seller in Turkey, with more than 120,000 copies purchased. Ms. Shafak had planned a six-city American book tour to promote it, including stops in Chicago and Los Angeles, but sharply curtailed the tour after the murder of Hrant Dink in January. Mr. Dink was a prominent Turkish newspaper editor of Armenian ancestry and a close friend of Ms. Shafak.
Sipping tea at the Warwick Hotel in Midtown Manhattan this week, Ms. Shafak politely declined to discuss her safety concerns, worried that the already dangerous situation could escalate. She travels with a bodyguard now and has been placed under official police protection in Turkey.
This fall Ms. Shafak was tried in court and acquitted of insulting Turkishness through characters in her novel who refer to the millions of Armenians massacred by Turks.
Ms. Shafak was sued by a nationalist Turkish lawyer, Kemal Kerincsiz, whose rightist group has also sued dozens of others, including Orhan Pamuk, Turkeys best-known and best-selling novelist.
In an interview in October, Mr. Pamuk, who had just hours earlier won the 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature, called himself essentially a literary man who had fallen into a political situation. His prize was widely seen as a nod to the political struggles in Turkey, a country whose citizens wrestle with the possibility of joining the European Union while preserving a strict Turkish identity.

Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520
This information is current as of today, Tue Feb 13 2007 00:37:06 GMT-0800.
LEBANON
December 22, 2006
This Travel Warning is being issued to alert American citizens to the ongoing demonstrations and political tensions in Lebanon. The Department strongly urges U.S. citizens to defer travel to Lebanon and also urges American citizens in Lebanon to consider carefully the risks of remaining. This Travel Warning also alerts U.S. citizens to the ongoing safety and security concerns in Lebanon. It supersedes the Travel Warning issued on September 28, 2006.
The Department remains concerned about the personal safety and security of American citizens in Lebanon. American citizens traveling to or residing in Lebanon despite this Travel Warning should exercise heightened caution. Since the August 14 cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, political tensions in Lebanon have increased and have become a cause for concern in recent weeks. Hizballah maintains a strong presence in many areas of Lebanon, and there is the potential for anti-American actions by other extremist groups in Tripoli, Sidon, and the Palestinian refugee camps. Americans are urged to avoid large public gatherings, including the Martyrs Square and Riad El Solh areas in Beirut when demonstrations occur. Conditions in Lebanon can change quickly and dramatically, including with regard to access to Beirut International Airport and the ports. Sporadic violence has occurred and there remains the possibility of further violence. All U.S. citizens in Lebanon are encouraged to register with the U.S. Embassy in Beirut where they may also obtain updated information on travel and security conditions in Lebanon. Registration details are discussed below.
U.S. citizens in Lebanon should at all times be aware of a possible deterioration of the security situation. Americans should pay close attention to their personal security and consider fully the necessity of remaining in Lebanon at this time. Accordingly, Americans and their family members should ensure that their passports and U.S. travel documents are up-to-date. The lack of valid travel documents will delay the ability of the U.S. Embassy to provide assistance.
The U.S. Government considers the potential threat to U.S. Government personnel assigned to Beirut sufficiently serious to require them to live and work under strict security restrictions. These practices limit, and may occasionally prevent, the movement of U.S. Embassy officials in certain areas of the country. Unofficial travel to Lebanon by U.S. Government employees and their family members requires prior approval by the Department of State.
Dangers posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance throughout southern Lebanon are significant and also exist in other areas where civil war fighting was intense. There is a danger of unexploded cluster bombs and other ordnance in areas south of the Litani River that were scenes of fighting in the July-August 2006 conflict. Over 100 civilians have been injured, and more than a dozen killed, by unexploded ordnance, since the cessation of hostilities. Travelers should be aware of posted landmine warnings and strictly avoid all areas where landmines and unexploded ordnance may be present.
The Embassy is located in Awkar, near Antelias, Beirut, Lebanon. Public access hours for American citizens are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. However, American citizens who require emergency services outside of these hours may contact the Embassy by telephone at any time. The telephone numbers are (961-4) 542-600, 543-600, and fax 544-209. American citizens may register with the Embassy online by visiting https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs. Information on consular services and registration can also be found at http://beirut.usembassy.gov or by phone at the above telephone numbers between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday local time.
Updated information on travel and security in Lebanon may be obtained from the Department of State by calling 1-888-407-4747 within the United States or, from overseas, 1-202-501-4444. Additional details can be found in the Department of State's Consular Information Sheet for Lebanon, the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, the Middle East and North Africa Public Announcement and the Travel Publication A Safe Trip Abroad, all of which are available on the Department's Internet site at http://travel.state.gov.

GUINEA
February 12, 2007
This Travel Warning is being updated to strongly urge Americans to defer all travel to Guinea until the situation stabilizes. The Department of State has ordered the departure of all eligible family members of U.S. mission employees. There has been violent unrest in Conakry and in towns throughout Guinea over the last three days, and the security climate shows no sign of stabilizing. At least 23 people died February 10-11. This supersedes the Travel Warning dated January 26, 2007.
Violent disturbances and destruction have occurred throughout Guinea. Looting has been widespread as protesters and vandals targeted government buildings and property owned by government officials. While foreigners, including Americans, are not specifically targeted, they are increasingly targets of opportunity if caught in the open. Local security forces are unable to guarantee the safety of foreigners.
Because of the continued instability, the Department of State has ordered the departure of U.S. Mission eligible family members. American citizens are strongly urged to defer all travel to Guinea until the situation stabilizes; American citizens in Guinea are urged to depart. The U.S. Embassy will remain open for emergency services with a limited staff. The airport remains open at this time though most airlines have cancelled international flights to Guinea. Those who wish to depart Guinea should do so as flights become available, and should contact the U.S. Embassys Consular section for further information and assistance.
U.S. citizens who must travel to Guinea despite this Travel Warning should regularly monitor the Departments Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings, and other Public Announcements can be found. Up to date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States and Canada, or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).
Americans living or traveling in Guinea are urged to register with the U.S. Embassy, where they may obtain updated information on travel and security within Guinea. Security updates are e-mailed to all registered Americans with an e-mail address. Registration is done online and can be done in advance of travel at https://travelregistration.state.gov. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the U.S. Embassy in Conakry. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy to contact them in case of emergency.
The U.S. Embassy is located on the Transversale No. 2, Centre Administratif de Koloma opposite the New Radio Station in Ratoma, Conakry, Guinea; telephone +224-30-42-08-62 through 68 or fax +224-30-42-08-71; email consularconakr@state.gov. The U.S. embassy website is http://conakry.usembassy.gov/index.html. The Embassys workweek is Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The American Citizens Services (ACS) unit is open to the public each Tuesday and Friday, except for American and most local holidays.

By Michael Ireland

JOHANNESBURG., SOUTH AFRICA (ANS) -- Three suspects will appear in the Polokwane magistrate's court on Monday in connection with the murder of a pastor, Limpopo police said.
According to www.news24.com Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said the men will appear on charges of murder and armed robbery.
Pastor Musa Maluleke of the Good Soil Christian Church was kidnapped at gunpoint on Sunday (Feb.4) from his recording studio and driven away in his own car.
Police arrested two suspects aged 30 and 32 on Thursday and found the pastor's body buried in a shallow grave in the bushes at Thokgwaneng village in Lebowakgomo. A third suspect was later arrested on Friday.
Maluleke's car, a Nissan Almera, and a revolver were also recovered.

Killer identified as 18-year-old Solejman Talovic
The 18-year-old man who shot and killed at least five people Monday night at Trolley Square has been identified as Solejman Talovic, a Bosnian refugee who lived in Salt Lake City.
Little additional information was released about Talovic.
The Bosnian community, which numbers about 3,000 in Utah, planned a press conference later this afternoon.
Talovic parked his car in the west parking lot and walked into the mall, encountering two people, whom he shot. Then he walked further into the mall and shot a woman, said Police Chief Chris Burbank.
He then walked to a gift shop and shot five people. He shot several other people before he was gunned down by an off-duty Ogden police officer assisted by four Salt Lake City police officers, Burbank said. (snip)

I believe most Bosnians are Muslim.
I'm not sure about that, yet.
In the meantime, new details emerged about the shooter, who sources told the Deseret Morning News is a Bosnian immigrant who worked at Aramark Uniform Services in South Salt Lake. Detectives were on the scene Tuesday morning questioning co-workers.
(snip)
"His expression seemed totally calm," Smith said.
