Only the most far-out conspiracy theorists believe in scenarios like Hunt's. But in a new memoir, "American Spy: My Secret History in the CIA, Watergate & Beyond," due out in April, Hunt, 88, writes: "Having Kennedy liquidated, thus elevating himself to the presidency without having to work for it himself, could have been a very tempting and logical move on Johnson's part.
"LBJ had the money and the connections to manipulate the scenario in Dallas and is on record as having convinced JFK to make the appearance in the first place. He further tried unsuccessfully to engineer the passengers of each vehicle, trying to get his good buddy, Gov. [John] Connolly, to ride with him instead of in JFK's car - where . . . he would have been out of danger."

To all of you who believe in a conspiracy.
WHICH ONE??? They all contradict each other.
I would like to think that all of here are reasonably intelligent and have good old horse sense, common sense and we probably agree with each other about 90% of the time.
It seems most here believe SOME type of conspiracy exists, I don't question anyones intelligence here, I only question your sources, your SCIENCE, and believe that mass attitudes have influence you without you knowing it.
Those of us who believe Oswald acted alone are viewed as the "rubes". The truth is any reasonable person who has delved DEEPLY into the subject can only come to the LOGICAL, EASILY PROVEN BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT, that Oswald acted alone.
Unfortunately, it is not I who have drunk deeply of the Kool-Aid. Get reading and triple check your sources, etc.
I saw a show on some channel (I think ABC) that had a forensic reconstruction of the assassination. There was a lone gunman, shooting from on high, and gelatin dummies positioned like in the motorcade. They had analysts do "blind" studies of it, and all their reports said there must have been multiple gunmen. But actually there was only 1--the angles and positioning resulted in the weird bullet trajectory.
Peter Jennings closed the report by saying something quite intriguing. For most of the great crimes in history, we have a corresponding great criminal and scheme. There is balance. But with JFK, we have a head of state toppled by a nutjob out to make his place in history. There is no great criminal. It doesn't balance out like the Holocost and the Nazis. That's why there's a need to invent an elaborate conpiracy.
I don't know if it's true or not, but that resonates with me.
It's THE reason why Hillary will NEVER pick OBAMA for VP or vice versa!!
My guess is that LBJ had FBI files on EVERYONE back then!!
Bush's spokesperson's father just wrote a book about how LBJ did it....can't remember his name.
I have. I started reading his books over ten years ago. As far as self-promotion goes, most authors do promote their books or their views.

When you have time would you please go into more detail? I have studied a great deal of history but my interest usually fades right about 1946. I've never studied the Kennedy hit but find the theories behind it fascinating.

Any one of you who does not belive Oswald acted alone have not done enough research. The crime of the century has been solved numerous times, but it doesn't make for exciting and fun reading, watching, etc. The conspiracy books and movies about Kennedy make for the best spy/murder drama subject ever. They entertain me greatly, but it's nice to know the truth while watching. How many of you believe in UFO's, alien abductions, etc. That would be interesting to know.
Johnson certainly qualifies but there are probably numerous others.
......And by 2017 everybody will be dead: all the remaining living eye-witnesses, immediate family members of the Kennedys/Johnsons/etc. who were there, whoever else was involved, the shooter(s) and most of the rest of us. Our children won't care and by that time it will be nothing more than a side-note to history. I've always thought that if it really was ONLY Oswald and no one else was involved and the Government was sold on the Warren Commission's Report, there would be NO NEED to keep everything secret until 2017. The Government thinks we're all stupid anyway. Why they bother I don't understand.
Try the book "Act of Treason" by Mark North, who makes a quite extensive case that J. Edgar Hoover knew of a contract put out by the mob boss in New Orleans for a "hit" of JFK, and that LBJ and Hoover coordinated closely during that time and during the Warren Commission proceedings. The book presents a lot of evidence regarding LBJ's motives (much more than just "I want to be president" or "I hate JFK"). Also, that Hoover never alerted the Secret Service of the mob plot. Judge for yourself regarding its persuasiveness.

Yaawwnn......when are they ever gonna see that it just might be possible for a bitter, little nobody to take down the most powerful leader on earth.....right under their noses? We finally made it to Dealy Plaza after all these years,and we were astonished at how small an area it was.......nothing like on film where it looks like such a far distance from Oswald's sniper's nest to the street.

They're all great reading, as long as you know it's fiction. Delve into the dearth of "information" on the subject, I had a lot of fun with it. The only LOGICAL, SOBER, conclusion after reading EVERYTHING is that Oswald acted alone. Read Case Closed first, watch the special that Peter Jennings did, and watch the re-creation done by I forget the name, but it's something like "failure analysis" who do recreations for insurance/crimes, etc., I believe this show was on A&E.
After digesting all of the material that convicts Oswald, THEN read all the conspiracy books and watch conspiracy movies, documentaries, etc. I've watched them ALL, they're all enjoyable. The conspiracy books are fun too. "The Men Who Killed Kennedy" a long series on A & E was great fun too. There was also a DVD with a guy who said he did the shooting himself and explained the whole killing that was great too.
The problem I have with this is that unless he presents facts in the book, not speculation, he's doing everyone a disservice. If you are going to make claims like that at least make them when you are alive to back up what you say.
One of the councilors/supervisors introduced us to the JFK murder conspiracy stuff, and I have never looked back since. I mean, I exactly have looked back, but I feel that I sort of lost my political virginity that year.
Perhaps Jim Garrison was just a nut after all. Certainly that Oliver Stone movie was absurd. But the evidence is all there regarding a conspiracy.
The Zapruder film, recorded a lot of things. the umbrella guy, and the impacts forcing the head backward. How the heck can anyone look at a head lurching backward like that and then say it was inertia? That defies sense.
Even the acoustics from that policeman's radio was determined to indicate that the book building was not the source of the shot that killed JFK...blah blah blah.
That stupid unscathed bullet evidence ought to be enough for any rational thinking person to be able to conlude that we were all sold a bill of goods.
Whatever, it is all over now.
It is though, crimes such as this, that makes me somehow pleased to know, that there is coming....Judgement Day.
The Mob used their money, Union voting block and corrupt election powers to get JFK elected. JFK spat in their face, by apppointing RFK as attorney general, who immediately announced he was pursing a vigorous crusade against organized crime and the mafia. Doesn't seem very difficult to figure out what happened, considering not one but both were shot dead. The LBJ conspiracy theory ignores the fact they almost got JFK in Miami before Dallas. Jack Ruby was a mob club owner. He was offered a choice of his family's lives or to kill Oswald.
Everybody is gonna die in 10 years?
