Just heard via Fox News Alert that additional charges have been levied against Nifong. Charges are that he failed to disclose and/or hid the DNA evidence (that exonerated the 3 players charged).
Freeman is likely not bailing but negotiating for Nifong. He probably sees this as a case where a deal is in the best interest of the client.
Imagine if he could get Nifong a deal where he copped to the misleading statements, retired, gave up his license and was not officially found to have lied to the court or hidden evidence. That would salvage Nifong's rep as much as could be done, I think.
He said the complaint was about the Duke case and so he should step down. EXCEPT, the complaint was made in December and he should have stepped down then. He went on to take the Oath of Office. IF he benefits by taking that oath rather than leaving as "an appointee" I'd say it might constitute fraud. It may also speak to "Hey, Gov....you appointed the jerk". This is like the shell and pea game.
Abb/howlin shouldn't we try to get everyone on to one thread given all the breaking news of the day?
One of the NC bar counts is for lying to the Bar disciplinary committee. Nifong did not serve himself very well by not hiring an attorney early on.

You remember Linwood Wilson! I know you do! He's the one who challenged Cheshire last summer during a post-hearing news conference. Cheshire was telling the reporters about Crystal's many versions of the "rape." Two guys, no, five guys, no, 20 guys.
Linwood opens his mouth claiming that wasn't true! Cheshire responded the following day in a letter that made Wilson look like an ignorant fool. Heh!

I like Mike's audition in the bathrobe. It would look good on him in prison. I can see it now, his bathrobe, a bottle of liquid soap and a lot of "bubba" justice. If he's lucky he could have a soft pillow to bite into while he's getting his much deserved "bubba" justice.

I second that motion. It's not easy keeping up with numerous threads.
No wonder there is little reform in prison.
Better to disbar all such crooked lawyers and order him to pay expenses incurred by those he wronged.
Spending $45,000 a year to keep him and other non-violent criminals confined with the worst is expensive and really doesn't deter anyone

Mrs. Recall got on the Chris Core radio show today in the DC market on WMAL. She ended up educating the masses for about 15 minutes on the history of the hoax. Core was particularly interested in her comments, and wanted to talk about the responsibility of each of the characters, including the lax players. After her talk, she sent the folloing e-mail, which Core published at the WMAL website at www.wmal.com. It is not posted yet but should be in the next day or two:

As a later caller or email mentioned, the boys did bear some personal responsibility. What are the consequences for a racial epithet or under age drinking? 30 years in prison? The consequence must reflect the crime or lack of judgement. Besides, the other stripper said the racial epithet (see 60 min) was hurled in response to her "limp d*ick white boy) comment. Are racial epithets only wrong in one direction? Nifong was going to base his entire court case with a Durham jury on this one exchange. At the same time you have the Duke president saying that calling the boys rapists was freedom of speech.
Did the stripper have any personal responsibility? Is it a good idea to have 5 other sperm DNAs and then go without an escort to strip? Is it a good idea to be a hooker? How about the DA, does he have any personal responsibility not to lie, conceal evidence, destroy evidence, provide a unconstitutional lineup, use inflammatory language, on and on?
How about the president of Duke? Did he have any responsibility toward the students? Should his staff have told them not to tell their parents? or lawyers? or should he have protected them from the black panthers? I could go on...
The media? Innocent till proven guilty or should the Raleigh news and observer only have published half the story?
I have 3 sons. They play lacrosse among other things. I can easily see them at a party where someone has hired strippers. Should they go to prison for that if it ever happens? Should I be bankrupted? Brodhead and Nifong should both serve jail time. They knew what they were doing.

This is well worth reading as it is so damning. It will not be news to regulars here but it is exceedingly well crafted. My reading is that whoever drafted it has the utmost disdain for Nifong and wants his head on a platter and an apple firmly stuck in his mouth. The problem is that it has taken them so long to recognize just how outrageous Nifong has been from Day 1. The complaint is also, IMHO, a slap at the judges who allowed this farce to continue without doing something about it - unless of course they helped prompt the filing of these charges.
