"How much longer? I hear someone," says the nervous terrorist with a heavy Middle Eastern accent, just before U.S. agents storm a warehouse where a nuclear device is being assembled. Confusion reigns, drama builds, the device is detonated and a mushroom cloud looms over Los Angeles. Such is primetime television in the age of terrorism, or as some critics charge, has "24" gone too far?
"It's the closest television comes to roller coasters," said David Bianculli, television critic for the New York Daily News. "It works well dramatically, and as far as feeding fears, that's what '24' is all about."
Sut Jhally, co-producer and co-director of the film "Hijacking Catastrophe," says the dramatic action in the show creates a dangerous climate in which the public loses some of its perspective on what's real and what's not. Of course that may be a minority opinion given the show's enormous popularity.

"But some national security experts worry that television fantasy can trigger the imagination of terrorists.
Jack Cloonan, a former senior agent on the FBI's bin Laden squad in New York,
said that trainees in former al-Qaeda camps watched movie videos "to get ideas."
Uh oh....I hope Al Queda doesn't watch 24.
It might give them the idea to use suicide bombers and suitcase nukes.
We missed out.
He seems to be the only man more irascible than she is. She's changed though, dressing up in a suit etc.
I was telling my grandson this morning that I found a flaw in the story and that was that the scientist and a part were needed to detonate the bomb. What's up with the other 4? My grandson and I watched Sunday and Monday together... we are HUGE fans and what fun we have sharing the show. Oh and for all the pc folks, he is old enough to watch.
And even if, as you asked about there being 4 or 5 total of those parts, they would have gone up in the blast. Unless of course there are 4 more parts scattered all over the country? They don't usually leave such gaping inconsistencies that I notice and I'm sure they won't here either. I'm just curious how they will work it out.
To add to the lore, "Rothschild," which means "red sign" in mediaeval German, was supposedly adopted because of the sign he hung out over his store.
Which means that the name should not be pronounced "roths-child," but more like "rote-shildt."
Wasn't it the President that was killed in Air Force 1 that allowed Logan to ascend to the Presidency? Still brings up the 25th Amendment part about replacement veep, though I seem to recall there was someone on the show...
Are you kidding? A suitcase nuke and some dumb kid looking for 72 virgins is every Islamist's wet dream.
sure and when this president get killed the sister will be the next president because of her ACLU/CAIR type character. The woman wil come and save us all. /sarc.
I enjoy the show, but even more, I love how it drives the rats absolutely bonkers.
That's the way I remember it.
All this could happen. ABC doesn't won't folks to realize this...if they do...then then then the folks may support the WOT including Iraq!!!!!!!!
I didnt say it was. I was responding to the absurd statement by the Muslim activist that it was politically motivated. "24" is very balanced.
Well ABC seems to think it does. LOL. And we all know ABC programming is based on proven FACT. Heh.
"In CTU headquarters which is information central they are always watching Fox News," Biancilli said. "Now that is ridiculous."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the first part of yesterday's two-parter there was a CNN-lookalike station in the anti-terror HQ screen (same layout) but for obvious reasons it'd been labeled "CNB." Obviously a FOX show doesn't have to relabel FOX.
I don't remember ABC showing such concern about "propaganda" when they made their own TV movie as propaganda for the "nuclear freeze" movement back in 1983:

Oh, sure, ABC just wanted to provoke "discussion" but they just happened to be inspired by another leftist propagand piece "The China Syndrome" and just happened to coordinate their own propaganda piece with the height of the nuclear freeze movement.....
Oh yeah, he's coming back, as it Jean Smart. I was referring to S7 though. Not really sure the direction of S6. Seems a bit much, though, to through out the nuke in the first four hours and have Muslim terrorists be the blame. I'm still more worried about the deal with China. I wonder if the deal was they would hand over Jack Bauer in return for Logan being released from prison.
Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
"Oh, from this I may never recover."
Well, President David Palmer is back this season.
Of course, he's in the commercials....
