KIRKWOOD, Mo. (AP) - While his alleged kidnapper was away at work, teenager Shawn Hornbeck apparently had access to a computer, and may have put photos of himself online and posted a chilling message on a site created by his own desperate parents: "How long are you planning to look for your son?"

A series of Web postings under the name "Shawn Devlin" - Devlin is the last name of the man suspected of kidnapping Shawn and posing as his father - came to light after Shawn's rescue from an apartment in Kirkwood last week.

You are indulging in despicable, disgusting conjecture.

Shame on both of you!

How would you feel if folks were talking about your child like this?

Stop it!

That they were sadly realistic.

Pray for him? Wish I could. You know I've always felt that child molestors are nothing but Satan in the flesh indeed. No mercy for these perverts, I think. My husband says there should be a giant hold dug up for all child molestors to be thrown in and set on fire. Personally, I'd never thought of it in such graphic terms before; now I do.

I think it is quite possible and even fairly probable she had a baby. Were people to know that, this idea that the man who did this 'is not fit to stand trial' wouldn't wash as it does today.

I also think it is quite possible she went willingly in the begining and then felt compelled to stay as a result of the pregnancy. Please understand that responsibility and blame are two different things. Though sometimes people do hold both.

Lets say for a minute that she, or this boy, were willing participants in the very begining, not understanding fully the long term results of their actions, thus holding responsibility as opposed to blame. Wouldn't it be better to tell people the whole story outright so the most can be learned from such tragedies?

Maybe it is just but a pipedream but I have this crazy notion that more information is better than less information. Assumption isn't exactly the best teaching tool. Seems to me that blunt truth, even when painful and ugly, does alot better job.

Pray for people like that and it's like "coals pouring on their head" or somesuch.

Praying for them also helps me not go to the courtroom and kill them personally. (It's difficult to kill someone you ask God to deliver.)

Maybe the kidnapper kidnapped him not for sexual reasons, but to have a permanent best friend. Maybe the boy had a lot of freedom, didn't have to go to school, could spend most of his time playing video games and was allowed to eat as much pizza and candy as he wanted. I hope that's the case.

"Before I was grabbed, my abductor had been convicted of child molesting. Throughout my abduction, he never stopped molesting other children. Even so, after taking me from my home, abusing me for seven years and abducting another 5-year old, he served only three and one-half years in jail.
Please, somebody tell me that isn't true!

Why do some people always want to make it about blame instead of just recognizing that personal responsibility exists. Yes, even in younger children. It is not a bad thing, its just a thing. Why try to make more of it than it actually is?

Onyx so there is no personal responsibility to go around here? None to the parents that just
let him take his bike and go? None at all for stranger danger teachings?

I guess all personal responsibility de damned. Right? Do you see a difference between responsibility and blame? Will you tell me they are perfect synonyms in all usage? I figured you could answer that with the words you saved typing.

Neighbors heard screams, whimpering, banging etc.

First I've heard of that. These same neighbors thought this was a normal family too, I guess.

I keep thinking about both boys in front of the T.V. cameras. They must realize what we all think happened to them. They are now identifiable by the world and for the rest of their lives. Was it necessary to have them present at the interview? I don't believe so if protecting them is really the issue and reason for not fully disclosing what did in fact occur.

Another thought I had was I should think rather than protecting these children a good dose of testifying to what happened during trial ought to set them free of whatever bad things this pervert caused them to do. They will eventually find satisfaction in that they helped put the perpetrator away.

THE KID WAS 11 YEARS OLD. You have no idea the psychological ramfications of being abducted and threatened at that age. No offense, but you're a monster.

The problem with that is that he kidnapped another boy. I doubt that he wanted another "best friend."

You have done nothing but make unfounded assumptions about this boy and Elizabeth Smart.

It's helpful to know FACTS first.

Isn't it fair to say that imagination can very well lead to people thinking things that aren't true. Can it not be said that a victim would be better off with truthful knowledge out there instead of speculation? At least in some cases?
