Cops: Child Pornography Found on Mo. Kidnap Suspect's Computer
New York Post via FOX News ^ | January 15, 2007 | Andy Geller

Posted on 01/15/2007 5:19:13 AM PST by Kaslin

Child pornography was found on the home computer of the hulking loner accused of kidnapping two St. Louis boys, law-enforcement sources said Sunday.

As a result, the feds are considering slapping Michael Devlin, 41, with child-porn charges, the sources said.

Devlin, a 300-pound pizza-parlor manager, was arrested Friday in the kidnapping of Shawn Hornbeck, 15, who was kept for four years, and William Ownby, 13, who was rescued after four days.

"You have the freedom to entertain yourself as yo see fit"

By george, I think you've got it! As long as I'm not doing violence to another, you bet.

Don't you wonder why he didn't call home? I do.

That is like wondering why an aphid does not fight off the rancher ants.

It is like asking why a slave obeyed the master or asking why an Arab woman doesn't slough off her burka.   It is like asking why Jews went obligingly to their deaths.

Overwhelming force is the answer.   It makes me sad that anyone can even question this situation.

Re:Don't you wonder why he didn't call home? I do.

"I think that is a very heartless statement. If you read anything on kidnapping victims, you would know that is the norm rather than the exception."

It is not the norm. It is the response of someone that can not maintain rational perspective. It is the response of someone that has no sense of, or respect for their own dignity and freedom, because they have no clear sense of self. It is the response of someone that forgets and denies their self, their values and instead focuses on and sympathizes with their captors instead of escape and evasion for the purpose of regaining their freedom.

"'Stockholm Syndrome' would be my guess. He was just a kid. Who knows what his kidnapper told him or threatened him with? I'll kill your Mom? I'll kill your dog? No one cares about you but me?"

spunkets had the above focus when he was 8, even though he couldn't elaborate on it. He was denied the opportunity to eventually kill the kidnapper, because another adult put an end to the kidnapping before that opportunity arose. Another attempt was made when he was 11 and he distracted the kidnapper, so that Joey could split his head open with a garbage can lid. In both cases the intent of the scumbag was to kill us in a short time and the motive was "for kicks". We did not at any time loose focus, nor would we have if it did last longer. We ignored whatever fear was present to focus on what needed to be done and that was to kill the scumbag. In order to be susceptable to Stockholm syndrome, one needs to loose focus on reality, rationality and instead focus on and respond to the emotions of fear and despair and be open and sympathetic to the scumbag's BS.

Teaching kids about bad guys and how to violently oppose bad guys is a good thing.

The post to which I was responding wondered where the porn defenders were. So I answered the call. Got a problem with that?

Only Michael Devlin worked at the pizza place. No one from the pizza place knew of Shawn's existence. Shawn did not work there, unless you have a source that says otherwise.

Post 123 also contains private confessions. It was suggested that porn results in these kinds of things. It does not. It also also suggested by the "moralists", that exposing children to violence and allowing them access to violent shows and access to violent games causes criminal acts of violence. It does not. Teaching kids how to violently oppose bad guys is a good thing. That includes teaching them how to kill bad guys, because there is nothing wrong with doing that in perspective.

I guess I will have to look into that...not that I don't believe you, but just that I'm not familiar with the story.

In other words, you are describing an 11 year old boy snatched from his parents, sexually abused, physically abused and threatened to be killed. Exactly that is what I said. There are not many 11 year olds if any that have clear sense of self.
In no way, is Shawn responsible for what happened to him.

That's correct.

A neighbor reported that the boy lost his cell phone, the neighbor found it and returned it to the boy???? No phone?

The St. Louis news story I saw interviewed this neighbor. The neighbor started calling numbers on the phone. Devlin himself answered the cell phone, but Shawn came out of the apt. to cross the st. and go get the phone at the nearby apt. complex. The neighbor saw Shawn come out of the apt. and walk to his place, which must have been in line of sight.

We just had a long talk with our kids (again!).

No adult needs to be asking a kid for directions, to use a phone, do you know where so and so lives, do you want to pet my dog, have you seen my dog, where did you get that bike, etc.

You do not need to speak to strangers other than "I'm sorry but I don't know." If they continue to talk to you or follow you you do not need to be polite and you can walk away fast. If it continues you can run to one of the many people's house that you know along the way (usually just between school or a friends' nearby house). Or, run to an elderly man or woman out in their yard as a last resort.

We will never send a stranger to tell you that we have been hurt, in the hospital, etc. We will send a friend that we have named or a cop with a marked squad car. We will not send someone just because they are a neighbor. And if we do, they will use the password that all the kids know.

If a stranger does try to grab you yell, fight, kick, throw stuff, etc.

And, remember that we love you and always will. If a stanger has you and says "I bet your parents make you go to school, eat your vegetables, not play violent video games, makes you wear your headgear at night, brush your teath, etc."

The kids were laughing at this point and coming up with their own things like "staying up until midnight, not doing homework, etc..." They know we do these things because we love them.

Finally, I told them that we will always love them no matter what. And if some guy says that he'll kill you and/or your family if you try to escape - that's not going to happen. There are ways to protect the family from that.

And all of that said, a little child's mind can be molded fairly quickly I imagine by some twisted evil person.

The way I understand is the kidnapper had the job at the pizza place, Many people do a lot of speculating, I admit I am guilty to, but I think this is just human nature

You have got to be kidding! You don't know what he is guilty of when he kidnapped two little boys???

You think they went freely with him?
