Re:Don't you wonder why he didn't call home? I do.

"I think that is a very heartless statement. If you read anything on kidnapping victims, you would know that is the norm rather than the exception."

It is not the norm. It is the response of someone that can not maintain rational perspective. It is the response of someone that has no sense of, or respect for their own dignity and freedom, because they have no clear sense of self. It is the response of someone that forgets and denies their self, their values and instead focuses on and sympathizes with their captors instead of escape and evasion for the purpose of regaining their freedom.

"'Stockholm Syndrome' would be my guess. He was just a kid. Who knows what his kidnapper told him or threatened him with? I'll kill your Mom? I'll kill your dog? No one cares about you but me?"

spunkets had the above focus when he was 8, even though he couldn't elaborate on it. He was denied the opportunity to eventually kill the kidnapper, because another adult put an end to the kidnapping before that opportunity arose. Another attempt was made when he was 11 and he distracted the kidnapper, so that Joey could split his head open with a garbage can lid. In both cases the intent of the scumbag was to kill us in a short time and the motive was "for kicks". We did not at any time loose focus, nor would we have if it did last longer. We ignored whatever fear was present to focus on what needed to be done and that was to kill the scumbag. In order to be susceptable to Stockholm syndrome, one needs to loose focus on reality, rationality and instead focus on and respond to the emotions of fear and despair and be open and sympathetic to the scumbag's BS.

Teaching kids about bad guys and how to violently oppose bad guys is a good thing.

In other words, you are describing an 11 year old boy snatched from his parents, sexually abused, physically abused and threatened to be killed. Exactly that is what I said. There are not many 11 year olds if any that have clear sense of self.
In no way, is Shawn responsible for what happened to him.
