Unswayed by anti-war passions, President Bush will send 21,500 additional U.S. troops to Iraq and build the American presence there toward its highest level to quell worsening bloodshed. The move puts Bush on a collision course with the new Democratic Congress and runs counter to advice from some senior generals.
Set to announce his decisions in a prime-time speech Wednesday night, Bush was to acknowledge making major mistakes in Iraq, primarily failing to deploy enough U.S. soldiers and demand more Iraqi troops and cooperation to confront the country's near-anarchy.
In advance of Bush's address, White House counselor Dan Bartlett said U.S. military operations have been "handcuffed by political interference by Iraqi leadership" but now will proceed under rules allowing troops to confront Shiite militias as well as Sunni insurgents.

The new Democratic leaders of Congress met with Bush and complained afterward that their opposition to a buildup had been ignored. "This is the third time we are going down this path. Two times this has not worked," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. "Why are they doing this now? That question remains."
Senate and House Democrats are arranging votes urging the president not to send more troops. While lacking the force of law, the measures would compel Republicans to go on record as either bucking the president or supporting an escalation.

Ashley Wilkes is Rush's term for Clark
That's what Rush calls him...
Glad Brownback is exposed. A nice person but was never on my list due to his open border and pro amnesty views.
Now no more troops, not a supportive Republican.
That's too funny!
Mr. onyx is a VERY smart man. Tell him I said so. LOL
Clark=cadaver.......that man needs some sunlight.
I remember when Clark first joined Fox news as an "analyst" (actually, DNC talking points reader), Rush joked that he would pay big bucks to a Fox News staffer to type "Ashley Wilkes" on the Chiron when he appeared.
Give 'em hell, GW.......
This is one country gal from Ohio who is with you....and many others are, despite what the MSMorons report.
He is just so full of himself, its disgusting. His plan, send diplomats over there and talk to everybody. Send him, he will get results. After all, he stuck his finger in Milovichis(sp) chest and told him to live up to the UN resolutions. LOL. What a perfume prince.
"Husbamd has TV shut off and will not turn it on until 7:59 PM here."
LOL...that's probably the smart thing to do. I am listening to Mark Levin.
Waiting to hear from Duncan Hunter will close ranks. He's the latest conservative great hope. Just about everyone else has declared.
No, kiddo, I didn't. I had some contractors in to look at some work on the house. I had the senate on most of the day, but it must have come during that interval.
I'll vote for that!
Perhaps senility is setting in on her? Don't mean to be tacky, but I've had it with these types.
LOL -- I just did -- you have made his night!
