Poll: Only 17% approve Iraq "surge"...
Washington Post ^ | January 09, 2007 | ducman

Tuesday, January 9, 2007 "In the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll, six in 10 respondents said the war is not worth fighting, three-quarters disapproved of how Bush has handled the situation, and there was no consensus about how the United States should adjust its policies in Iraq. Only 17 percent called for an increase in U.S. forces, the "surge" believed to be a centerpiece of the new Bush plan."

The WAPO "hyperlink' within this "poll" takes you nowhere. And, the ABC News web site has absoultely no mention of said poll. In fact - ABC News mentions a Gallup poll today citing numbers twice as high (34%) supporting a surge. Is this WAPO poll bogus? Where can I find the numbers behind this "poll" like all other polls offer? Anyone?

48% still think the U.S. can achieve its goals (23% by sending more troops, 25% with the current number) versus 47% who say it’s impossible. That’s probably all the political cover Bush needs.

I refuse to make decisions on any issue based on media generated polls that can be so easily manipulated to obtain the results they want.

Did FDR take a poll before D-Day? Did Washington take a poll before crossing the Delaware? Of course not. Polls on this sort of question mean nothing. The average american is little informed about the issues in Iraq and unqualified to evaluate military strategy.

The media and the Democrats are allies of the terrorists. They want the United States to fail so they can blame it on Bush, thinking they will then win the White House in 2008.

Yes, another so called poll which measures the effectiveness of MSN propaganda. I never get a call from the pollsters. I do not qualify for their polls because I have no MSN outlet in my home. I wonder why they have that rule?( Get news only from the internet.)

I'm interested to know how they can get away with this without backing it up. Where can one find these supposed numbers?

That makes two of us. Cannot believe they take polls on how we conduct foreign affairs. Then they don't back up the poll with even phoney numbers.

Well, if I were the president and saw those poll numbers, I'd haul out the atomic bomb and end this war quickly, as Truman did in WWII. Truman also was vilified and so he had nothing to lose, and it freed him to do the right thing. Ending the war by roasting two Japanese cities saved thousands of our troops who would have died had we had to invade the island of Japan. I hope Pres. Bush will heed that lesson of history and will do likewise.

Meanwhile, in 1779 there were more Americans fighting for Britian in the Colonies then there were in the Continental Army. We won. They didn't so who gives a rip about polls. Americans easily turn to support our enemies and if we hang tough we will win again.

It is excellent that we are in a Constitutional Republic where the Leader of the Nation, the President of the United States, and the only Commander in Chief does not have to follow the polls from a treasonous media and a public that is bombarded by negativism and defeatism 24/7.

Mr. President God bless you and God bless our troops.

Thankfully that's not how they fought WWII. I shudder to think how that would have turned out if such was the case then.

Americans aren't stupid. They've watched the military's hands tied, our boys prosecuted for panties on heads, and politicians making strategy.

Why would they have confidence any of this would change now?

Not very likely, given that he continually speaks of giving freedom to the Iraqi people...he's hardly gonna turn around and nuke 'em.

I support the war in Iraq, and I support the war against Al Qaeda. But the White House has just not sold this war to the American public. The polls may be weighted, but they all show big numbers against the war. Part of leadership is explaining why we are fighting, and what is at stake. That just has not been done. We should have taken this conflict more seriously at the very beginning.

This appears to be a reference to the Post's bogus December poll.

Just think what would have happened with D-Day with this bunch of so-called reporters. Germans would have known everything that was headed their way.

...then 83% approve of defeat. The Dems of course will win a country that is not respected by the world, whose allies will not trust it, where anything goes because the US will do nothing and if it does, we weaken. One thing is for sure, future wars must be short, brutal and fixed objectives accomplished followed by a rapid withdrawal. If we do that then others will not take on the US and the Traitors (Dems) will have no talking points.

Funny, we are helping the Somalia government, with our ally Ethiopia, kick butt in Somalia where Clinton screwed up and no comments from the MSM. when will someone arrest, try and execute Kennedy as a traitor - we con discuss the merits after "mission accpmlished".
