Announcement Could Come as Early as Tomorrow
Jan. 4, 2007 - ABC News has learned that President Bush will nominate Zalmay Khalilzad to be the new U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Khalilzad is currently the U.S. ambassador to Iraq. The announcement may come as soon as tomorrow. Khalilzad's departure from Baghdad will happen as soon as he is confirmed as U.N. ambassador.
Ryan Crocker, currently the U.S. ambassador to Pakistan, will be nominated to replace Khalilzad in Baghdad. Khalilzad has been U.S. ambassador to Iraq since June 2005. He is the highest ranking Muslim in the U.S. government and one of the few officials at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad fluent in Arabic.
A consummate dealmaker, Khalilzad played an active role trying to push the Iraqi government toward political reconciliation. Khalilzad's efforts aliented some in the Shia-dominated Iraqi government who complained that Khalilzad was biased in favor of Iraq's Sunnis. Khalilzad is a Sunni Muslim. Before becoming U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Khalilzad served as U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan. Prior to that, he served as a Special Presidential Envoy and Ambassador at Large for the Free Iraqis.
Khalilzad has a bachelor's and a master's degree from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
Aw, bless their hearts.
PNAC? What's that? (It sounds familiar.)
Why would he give "Super K II" such a pointless, aggravating job?
I thought K had done excellent work.
My reply on this from a duplicate thread (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1762484/posts):
I never expect a Muslim to win my trust as every Muslim is a member of a "religion" that preaches and practices hatred against non-Muslims. A person can be a good American or good Muslim, but not both.
I grow more suspicious of President Bush by the day as he moves forward with his policies allowing Muslims to colonize our nation, secures tens of millions of dollars from Muslim nations for his future presidential library, encourages restraints upon our entire society when it is only the Muslims that have planned and delivered acts of mass terrorism upon our nation during his administration, and hosts annual Ramadan celebrations in our White House.
Is President Bush a Muslim pawn? By his own words, he is either with us, or against us.
Thank you for posting that bio info.

Sounds like this man is three-fourths of the way to becoming an American in deed as well as greatly in heart. I pray he finds Jesus as his Savior.
He might, and I wonder about that. Some Christians won't swear on the Bible or anything and I assume moslems have the same proscription, but who knows.
The year is very early, but that still might win as the most stupid question posted this year on Free Republic.
Sounds like he is an American in deed and heart.
And I found out: People for a New American Century.
I guess we're learning there are moderate muslims?
"maybe your standards are too high"
I don't care about me, but I DO care about the future of my country AND my Grandchildren.
Is he conservative?
I am proud of him in Iraq, but the UN is a whole different animal.
what have people said?
what is wrong about realizing not all Muslims are out to get us?
They are heretics
I am an Agnostic. Am I only a "3/4ths" American?
I wouldn't be so sure. I could envison a Christian Republican President trying to appear to be even-handed in dealing with muslims by nominating a muslim for the UN and then dems trying to appear strong on defense by opposing it. The dems will find some way to attack him unless he's a liberal in disguise.
