Two and a half years ago I predicted George W Bush's victory in the 2004 elections as well as the subsequent ruin of his political fortune. "Many will be the night during his second term," I wrote in August 2004, "that Bush will wish he were still in Texas, and still drunk." [1]
Here is a follow-on forecast: brother Jeb, about to step down as governor of the state of Florida, will be elected president of the United States in 2008, thanks in large measure to the rebound ofthe current president's standing. In fact, I have no idea whether this will occur. But I raise the prospect to show why it could occur.

No more Bushes, please.
They just don't fight hard enough, and they are not conservative enough, either.
Seconds up. Come back to reality. He's not presidential material.
No choice - they are two faces of the same problem. I'd vote third party.
I love conservatives. I just dont like Bush.
I dislike GWB's inability to articulate a position. I used to cringe during the debates--everytme he opened his mouth it was difficult to follow his line of thought.
And when he tells me everyone is "working hard" I have to laugh. I expect my employees to work hard every time they punch the clock. I also expect them to get results.
It is possible to list out good things that have happened, but the republicans have been unable to articulate how they have accomplished them. They are afraid of the fight.
We need new leadership that is not afraid to take positions and stand for them.
Well Yes, however Tony strikes me as being more intellegent than most of our elected officials.
No more Bushes is right, never ever again a Bush.
Well Yes, however Tony strikes me as being more intellegent than most of our elected officials.

My father would have referred to that as "damning with faint praise".
What we need even more than raw intelligence is intelligent leadership, imho.
I was oblivious to his generalized opinion of Japanese mentality until I apprised him I would be visiting Japan on business (in about 1991, when I was 36).

I have had a lot of responsibility in life, but this is truly an honor.
Yes, we got Roberts and Alito. But first, recall that he wanted "whatsherface" on the court. There's some real leadership.
Its OK to be a conservative who doesn't blindly drink the GWB Kool-aid. He and the current set of neutered Republican leadership lost control of the country. Now we have to endure Nancy and Hillary.
I just dont understand why they never fight back against these people. The current Republican leadership lack fire in their collective bellies.
I think my frustration is the same as many others: I want a leader. A leader has a vision. He articulates the vision, and then works to gain consensus that drives towards the achivement of the vision. He works both sides of the aisle and they work the public.
Granted, the Dem's have been obstructive...but a true leader would go to the people and make his case. Bush went out on the road for a few weeks and his ratings went up.
Then Foley got caught, and he went back into hiding.
"Stay the course" is not a vision. He had a vision early--after 9/11. But that is gone. He is afraid to fight. And it is costing the conservative cause.
Now as a minority, lame duck President I would like to see some of the testicular fortitude that we all KNOW he has--but has been, for some reason, afraid to use.
I don't want a leader of the greatest country in the world to seem like he is afraid. I would respect his positions and actions if it looked like he really believed in them.
At this point, I just want to be done with Bush's, Clinton's and Kennedys. A New Century needs new leadership.
