Jeb Bush in 2008?

Two and a half years ago I predicted George W Bush's victory in the 2004 elections as well as the subsequent ruin of his political fortune. "Many will be the night during his second term," I wrote in August 2004, "that Bush will wish he were still in Texas, and still drunk." [1]
Here is a follow-on forecast: brother Jeb, about to step down as governor of the state of Florida, will be elected president of the United States in 2008, thanks in large measure to the rebound ofthe current president's standing. In fact, I have no idea whether this will occur. But I raise the prospect to show why it could occur.

Jeb is the best governor this state has ever seen. I'd vote for him in a second.

"No way, no why, no how."
Never say never.
Imagine the choice between, say, Hillary or Jeb.
Or McCain.
Or Jon Carey.
(No, not a fan of Jeb. Know nothing about him, other than the obvious.)

If voting for Jeb Bush meant NO Rudy Giuliani in 2008, I'd consider voting for another Bush. Another Bush is better then another Clinton or a NYCity liberal like Rudy.

Imagine the choice between, say, Hillary or Jeb. I'm sorry. We are too damn close to hereditary dynasties in this country as it is. I WOULD vote third party in that sitation, as I will not vote for any dynastic candidate ever again.

I would vote for him -- my favorite member of the Bush Family but he would never run in 2008 IMHO!

I am too but if it came down to Jeb or Hillary, that's a no brainer. Actually I thought Jeb would make a wonderful President before he was beat by Chiles.

Even though he'd be a good candidate, his last name precludes him from running.
Of course, according to certain FReepers, the reason he shouldn't run is because his wife is *gasp* Mexican.

Jeb is the best governor this state has ever seen. I'd vote for him in a second. He's definitely pro-gun. How is he on immigration (I think I already know)? Isn't there something terribly wrong with Child Protective Services in Florida?

I can live with this. President Bush has been a very good president. The worst mistake he made was signing McCain/Finegold.
He's done the right things in most cases but failed to communicate to the American people WHY he's doing what he's doing.
He's been great on the economy but has failed to take credit for it.
Jeb would have to be a better communicator.
