Jeb Bush in 2008?

Two and a half years ago I predicted George W Bush's victory in the 2004 elections as well as the subsequent ruin of his political fortune. "Many will be the night during his second term," I wrote in August 2004, "that Bush will wish he were still in Texas, and still drunk." [1]
Here is a follow-on forecast: brother Jeb, about to step down as governor of the state of Florida, will be elected president of the United States in 2008, thanks in large measure to the rebound ofthe current president's standing. In fact, I have no idea whether this will occur. But I raise the prospect to show why it could occur.

We have to ask one question, could JEB win Florida, Texas, and Ohio?
I think the answer is Yes, and he might win over a few blue states, and we could be talking landslide.

Sounds downright socialist. Look the laws of economics are tough to change. If someone else can do the job I need done cheaper than you and if the quality is there, you is out of a job. Period. No socialists will try and erect walls of protection but they don't work too. Funny thing them walls, other countries can build em too. And in 1929 had a bunch of walls up around the world after a couple of well meaning nationalist idiots Taft and Hartley did their thang. I prefer a little immigration problem to selling apples from a cart. Or dying in a major war to right the economic imbalance through force of arms.

I'm going to give you fair warning. In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is burned at the stake as a witch. I bet there are already some people on this board searching for kindling and matches.

Is this a Republic or a Monarchy or a crime syndicate?Dead on, The last election with neither a Bush nor a Clinton on the national ticket was 1976. I was in the first grade. I don't think American voters in 2008 will be favorably inclined toward dynastic rule, which is why I don't believe the Democrats will nominate a Clinton or the Republicans will nominate a Bush. If that's the country we wanted, we'd still be talking about Adams vs. Jefferson in '08.

How about Sheriff Joe?Arpaio brought a lot of get-tough, feel-good measures and didn't bring down the crime rate one tick. Emotion over effectiveness. So he'd probably win.

I have no idea how you could possibly have interpreted what I said as socialist. Most people make decisions about how to spend their money based on many things -- not just money. To this day my father will not buy a German of Japanese made car. Is he a socialist? No, he is not.

I doubt he'll run but I would certainly vote for Jeb. He has been a great Governor here in Florida. While I understand the concern of people regarding a "dynasty", I will look at the individual merits of each candidate regardless of surname.
To: agincourt1415
Any Republican can win Texas. So that fact does not work in Jeb's favor.

Is he vindictive?
You posted a similar thing about your dad on a Pearl-Harbor-reconciliation-of-Japanese-pilots-and American-soldier-survivors thread. Not buying German or Japanese is his prerogative, of course, but he's missing out on a lot of high-quality Japanese vehicles.

I would vote for him -- my favorite member of the Bush Family but he would never run in 2008 IMHO! The NewsMax article by Ronald Kessler makes it clear Jeb himself does not know what he is going to do. Click the image below.

Jeb Bush is also for amnesty for illegal immigrants, and the U.S. doesn't need a Bush dynasty! This is two major strikes against Jeb Bush.

Here -- Here !! I've been saying it should be Fred for the past three years... damn shame he left Washington - there is precident for an actor to win the White House. Somehow I doubt he still has the fire for the battle however.

Sorry, it was
not your dad on the Pearl Harbor thread. Many apologies.
Apparently your case is common among several freepers with vengeful fathers. holden's and Eclectica's dad especially, have a resemblance to your father (about this topic).

I'd vote for Jeb as fast as I could pull the lever...or any Republican except for McCain for that matter. If the choice is Hillary or Obama or any democrat except Zell Miller Jeb looks mighty good !

I'd vote for him, if for no other reason than to tweak the nutzos out there....
But I don't think he'll even run, much less get the nomination.
To: Iwo Jima
And, of course, you did not post that comment on the Pearl Harbor thread.
To: agincourt1415
Agree in principle -- Ohio and Florida are the Keys... and the Keystone state is third in line. Texas is a R. lock unless they nominate some real dufus - he'd have to be pretty lame to lose Texas !!

Maybe so. He has a right to be vindictive, if you want to call it that. His brother died in the Normandy invasion, and he himself was headed for the invasion of Japan when the 2nd bomb was dropped.
He knows that he is not getting the fullest range of consumer choices, but that is not what is paramount to him. Most people are like that, although what is paramount to people differs based on their core values.

LOL! I couldn't remember posting that, but because I easily could have, I just took your word for it. No big deal.
