Broncos right cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed this morning. After leaving a nightclub in a limousine, Williams was shot and killed near 11th and Grant in Denver. The team confirmed the death of Williams. A female passenger also was shot, according to a source familiar with Williams.
Williams was 24.
"I learned from the Denver Police Deprtment that this incident has occured," Williams' agent, Jeff Griffin said early Monday morning. "No other details have been released. I sincerely offer my condolences and feelings to his family."
Williams was the Broncos' starting right cornerback and played his final game for the team in a 26-23 overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers that eliminated Denver from the playoffs on New Year's Eve.
Horrible news.
That is what my wife said too!
; < )
After playing the Mavs to within 1 on their court, then winning in NY and Detroit on their courts, I think the Suns are ready to win it all this year. Amare gets better every game, and sooner or later we'll find a #8 player off the bench, then it should be lights out.
This was rented Hummer limo. The word I'm getting is that the limo had 16 people in it and that Javon Walker was one of the people. We know two others were injured besides Williams (a male and a female) but there is no word on whether Walker was the male.
If I were to guess, I would say he was not or it would have leaked by now.
Apparently, this must have been a pre-planned party as it is unlikely you are going to be renting an expensive limo on New Year's Eve on the spur of the moment.
This seems more and more like a mistaken identity thing not a drug deal gone bad or an angry fan. Williams and Walker were travelling in a group in a rented limo on New Year's Eve. Seems odd to me that players would do that after a crushing loss but then I'm not one of them.
For now, it just seems like "wrong place, wrong time".

Two Broncos' players involved in car-to-car shooting, one killed
>>DENVER - Less than 24 hours after playing in the last game of the season, the Denver Broncos say 24-year-old Darrent Williams was killed.
According to Denver Police, Williams was killed in an early morning shooting after someone with a gun pulled up alongside the white Hummer stretch limousine he and wide receiver Javon Walker were riding in and fired multiple shots.
Police say 16 people were in the stretched Hummer at the time of the shooting, including Williams and Walker.<<

Heard it on ESPN cold pizza. They didn't
get official word on it from police or the
Broncos organization because of today's
ongoing investigation. They said they
said they got it from Nick Ferguson,
a Bronco player.
Not trying to be a hard core
journalist here which is why
I said "I'm hearing"....
'98ers don't answer tough questions.
Like the guy who shot Williams, they just post and run.
Thank you for your comments.
My son knew Darrent from OSU.....I watched him play for the Pokes and we were so excited to watch him play for Denver. I hate this. God Bless Darrent and his family....
My prayers go out for his family, his teammates, and for his soul. My son was telling me he had planned to go to his home town to speak to school children about the dangers of getting involved with the gang culture. Now that message has been lost. May the police find the perpetrators of this horrible crime.
Right. But the NFL has already been dealing with a rash of adverse publicity this season due to the number of players arrested for off-field incidents -- including that one player for the Chargers who was shot by the police before the season began.
Makes his loss even more sad. Tragic, sad and sickening.
Prayers for his family.

Yes it does. My prayers have been offered for his family and teammates, and will continue. We should also offer up prayers for the families in Colorado who have lost loved ones in this latest storm. The report is that 12 people have died.
Exactly right. He, or someone, hired a professional driver - which is a responsible thing to do. Now, the venue, may have been a poor choice but I don't know. In any event, RIP.
You're a GOOD and thoughtful man. Bless you.
Oh man! I pray that whoever it is will be okay. I remember back when he was with the Packers and his problems with the front office had just started. After returning from his holdout, he stood patirntly outside Lambeau signing autographs for a couple of hours. He was gracious with everyone.
