The same way an anti-gay pastor can end up buying speed from a homosexual hustler. When people look for someone to "use", they generally aren't picky. I don't dismiss the possibility of an Islamic connection somewhere in the mix, but that McVeigh planned the attack, and executed it is not in question. He was nailed dead to rights.

A question about the pictures on yahoo. Is it usual for a person who has just been hanged to have normal coloration in their face, no bulging eyes, etc?

When somebody dies by hanging in the way Saddam was hanged (i.e., the "drop" style, as opposed to being hoisted), his neck is broken. He's not asphyxiated. It happens very quickly. I wouldn't expect his eyes to be bulging or his color to be different from anyone else who died from a broken neck.

I was listening to Rob Nelson but I caught Rusty saying some things that raised my eyebrow about how Conservative he really was.

That's why I've been tuned out lately, darn my list of talkies to listen to is getting shorter all the time.

I just can't imagine any Conservative being upset with the guy being hanged.

Haggard was not as anti gay as you may think. In fact he called for civil unions for homosexual couples. He was also part of the evangelical initiative concerned about "global warming"

I would place him in the left wing of the evangelical political spectrum.

For all those veterans, contractors, military families, and policy makers who have worked for this day - from the Persian Gulf War onward, until today - there is reason to rejoice. Saddam Hussein will never again torment the people of Iraq...

What planet are you on? What does Saddam's death really change? We would have reason to rejoice if the US finally decided to get rid of the 9/11-financing house of Saud instead of supporting them. That would be a great day and a decisive strike against terror. Saddam's execution, it pains me to say, is hardly a footnote.

The Hebrews who returned to Israel from slavery under the pharoh were the decendents of those original inhabitants you refer to. Those original inhabitants (or rather their decendents) had fallen out of grace with God, resulting in His decree for the Hebrews to slay them

Your words have much merit. I do not mourn the death of this tyrant, but neither do I feel celebratory over his demise. I have much sorrow that the world has to bear the burdens of such evil men like this bestow upon it. Further, I pity those casual bystanders who feel the need to "celebrate" something which has little to do with them directly. Even for those with family serving in Iraq, there is nothing here to celebrate. My son is still there. My nephew is still there. My brother-in-law's niece is still there. The men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces are still there, still fighting those who love death. Saddam's death has change nothing for them.

You're mistaken. There were no anti-American celebrations like that in Dearborn after 9/11.

I know for a fact there were in Patterson, NJ. My husband kept hearing what he thought was nonsense on the CB radio, about the World Trade Center Towers falling down. He turned on the AM/FM radio, and heard more of the same nonsense. It sounded like a variation on War of the Worlds. It wasn't until he saw the Muslims celebrating in the streets that he called me, and asked me to turn the TV on. I asked him what channel, and he said "Any channel. If what I'm hearing and seeing is real, it'll be on every channel." And it was, except for the Muslims dancing in the streets. That wasn't on any channel that I saw.
