Russia widens its meat import ban to all EU states

Russia consistently refuses to open its market to Poland. Poland on the other hand expects EU support on this matter.
In partial response, Russia decided to close its borders to meat imports from all EU countries from January 1, 2007. However, Russia is ready to make an exception for six countries: Denmark, France, Netherlands, Ireland, Germany and Italy. The EU said two days ago that it does not agree to such bilateral agreements with selected countries. It claims that such an act would be inconsistent with the memorandum it signed with Russia.
This is not the end of the bad news. Despite positive announcements, Ivan Bisiuk, the Ukrainian veterinary supervisor is not satisfied with the results of the inspection carried out in Polish meat companies. He thinks that Poland fulfilled only 30% of requirements made by Ukraine. Witold Choinski, the president of the Polish Meat Association, thinks that Russia's reaction was brought about by European Parliament's resolution which supported Poland in this case.

Except for 6 countries of course, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Ireland, Germany and Italy.
Surely among the largest meat exporters in the E.U.

Russia called the EU's bluff, and the EU is caught with their pants down. Glaring example of the difference between fare and free trade, and the exception to the "McDonald's rule" as well if you subscribe to Sun Tzu's philosophy "(trade) politics is war in another form."

Russia knows how to blackmail, for sure.

Russia knows how to blackmail, for sure. Russian neglected agriculture can use some protectionist measures.

When it comes to blackmailing - mutuality is the word.
There is plenty of blackmailing to go around and around and around on both Europe's and Russia's behalf.

Poland should do an end around and sell their meat to the other countries who can then sell meat to the Russians.

We need a comprehensive list of Polish companies and products to guide our buying here! We should be ready to support our friends in more than our talk.
I propose that we offer Poland membership in the Anglosphere.....what? we haven't formed that yet? WTH?!?!

We need a comprehensive list of Polish companies and products to guide our buying here! Start with Polish groceries near you. They have some excellent imported Polish food.
