The Dreamy Candidate With the Swoon Vote
Washington Post ^ | Dec 14,2006 | Libby Copeland

It is sometimes called a bubble or a boomlet or a bandwagon. A new political figure arrives on the national stage and audiences swoon. Suddenly, mysteriously, and without anybody knowing much about him, he is The One, the next hot thing, eclipsing all other presidential wannabes.

(Until he isn't anymore.)

This bubble is not love -- as anyone who was ever 15 years old can testify. This bubble is infatuation. Political infatuation. Presidential contenders can be the subject of crushes just as surely as that new kid in high school, and in both cases it's what you don't know about the person that forms much of the appeal.

Speaking of which, there's this transfer student we've been eyeing in Miss Fischer's P.E. class. Name's Barack or something. Big dark eyes, great cheekbones. From Illinois. Don't know much about him, but, boy, is he dreamy.

Monday Night Football gave him huge face time to introduce him to America this past Monday night when the Chicago Bears were playing. Had his big mug on the screen yakking away. Free face time. Free advertisement. Free from ESPN.

The Democrats want this guy to be President because of his looks and race...oh yeah...he's also articulate. Furhter proof, as if any were really needed, that the Democrats are truly the stupid party.

The Dreamy Candidate With the Swoon Vote

I DON'T KNOW WHY I LOVE HIM
(From the musical, "Barack Obama Superstar")
Tune: "I Don't Know How to Love Him"

I don't know why I love him,
My Barack, my Obama;
I've been charmed, yes really charmed,
By his trim physique, so slim and sleek--
I'm awed by his mystique.

I don't know why he's running,
I don't see any substance;
No real plan, flash in the pan,
And I've heard such empty words before
That when I close my eyes
He's just a bore.

But I like his face,
And I like his voice;
Makes my heartbeat race!
Makes me feel all moist!
I never thought I'd come to this:
Obama is my choice.

Don't you think it's rather shallow
I should vote for this fellow?
I'm the one who's always been
So pure, so pissed, so feminist;
I don't need men, oh no--
He scares me so.

But I like his face,
And I like his voice;
Makes my heartbeat race!
Makes me feel all moist!
I never thought I'd come to this:
Obama is my choice.

Yet, like in a romance novel,
I'm in love with a male model;
I've got to look! He signed my book!
My heart runs wild! I'll bear his child!
I want the world to know:
He's my "Big O"!
Obama, go!
I love you so!

I think we need to make sure that these people never become judges at beauty pageants.

Is it just me or do others think he is homely? As a woman, I don't get the "dreamy" thing with him at all.

You're not the only one. He doesn't do a thing for me either!

I never would have thought of Obama as a contender for the swoon vote...I assumed on opening this thread that it was likely about Evan Bayh! Shows what I know about "dreamy"!

Wrong...

The Clintons are going to recruit him for the Veep spot.

A Democratic and liberal media wet-dream. A liberal woman for President with an African-American male for Veep. The political calculus is obvious. The hype will not be on their policies or ideology, but that 'this is an historic ticket' and therefore they do not need to answer any hard questions or respond to the bigoted white male candidate from the Republicans. If you think the media cheered Kerry in 04, you've seen nothing yet.
