"British pilots say no to armed marshals"
By Audrey Hudson
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
December 17, 2006
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "British pilots oppose a proposed change in the United States' visa-waiver program that would require participating countries to provide armed security on U.S.-bound foreign airlines or allow U.S. air marshals to protect such flights.
"Any need to carry weapons on aircraft should be recognized as a failure of the airport security systems," the British Air Line Pilots Association (BALPA) said."
BBC NEWS: "MI5 TRACKING '30 TERROR PLOTS'" (ARTICLE SNIPPET: "MI5 knows of 30 terror plots threatening the UK and is keeping 1,600 individuals under surveillance, the security service's head has said. Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller warned the threat was "serious" and "growing". She warned future terrorists could mount chemical or nuclear attacks and that many of the plots in question "linked back to al-Qaeda".) (Last updated: November 10, 2006, 08:51 GMT)

Iraqi, Coalition Troops Kill One, Detain 14 Insurgents
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Dec. 17, 2006 Iraqi soldiers with coalition advisors killed an enemy fighter and captured 14 during two operations in Baghdad yesterday.
Ninth Iraqi Army Division troops and coalition advisors captured a suspected insurgent allegedly involved in improvised explosive device attacks against Iraqi civilians and security forces in the Rashid area of Baghdad.
The detainee is also believed to be responsible for kidnapping and setting up illegal checkpoints to help facilitate his alleged kidnapping and murder operations.
During the operation Iraqi forces also detained seven other suspects for further questioning.
Elsewhere yesterday, during an operation in Baghdads Sadr City neighborhood, special Iraqi army forces and coalition advisors met with resistance in their search for a suspect allegedly responsible for controlling insurgents. One enemy fighter was killed and one was wounded.
The wanted person allegedly directs and controls more than 100 insurgents committing violent acts against civilians and legitimate government forces, including kidnapping, murder, rocket attacks and IED construction.
During both operations, minimal damage was caused to the objectives and surrounding areas, and there were no reports of civilian casualties. No casualties were reported among Iraqi or coalition forces.

Mobile phones latest terror tools
NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 16
Fidayeen attacks have come down in India this year as militants have switched over to cellphone-driven detonation of improvised explosive device (IED) across the country.
And it is not happening only in J-K, even Naxalites have started using cellphones to trigger bomb blasts. In Andhra Pradesh, there were 15 mobile phone- induced bomb cases this year, some of which we detected before the Left extremists could set off the bomb, said DGP Andhra Pradesh Swarnjit Sen. The London serial blasts was also mobile phone triggered.
A recent recovery (September 16) of IEDs fitted with a mobile phone in a pressure cooker from Tahroo Chowk, Srinagar, has forced the Mumbai investigating team to re-examine the 7/11 serial blasts whether the pressure cooker bombs placed in the trains were triggered off by mobile phones.
This recent change in tactics has opened up a different front altogether, we use jammers only when VIPs move, Sen said, adding even jammers could be futile, if the militants start using satellite phones to detonate bombs.
In all these blasts, the militants had filled explosive chemicals or IED in steel boxes or pressure cookers. Its detonator was connected to a cellular phone and after planting the bomb, they called up from elsewhere, which could be as far as the US, and as the mobile rings, the circuit gets completed, which triggers the explosion.
January 2, 2006: Hyderabad Police detected IED in a large steel box and its detonator was connected to a mobile phone
March, 2006: Hyderabad Police seized a Nokia 3310 model (modified), five kg of ammonium nitrate and three electronic detonators with literature and diagram to make mobile-triggered IED
September 12, 2006: Militants planted a Nokia 1100 under a heap of stones at Sirpora Airwani Road in Kulgam. They detonated the bomb targeting an ex-ministers cavalcade on his way to Shalibug
October 16, 2006: Militants used a cellphone for a blast at village Okey in Kulgam
November 8, 2006: An IED was planted on the wall of an irrigation canal passing through a railway track at Gulzapora in Pulwama. The IED was detonated by a mobile phone
Not only this. On September 16, the Srinagar police recovered two IEDs of mobile mechanism fitted in a pressure cooker from a car. Six days later, CRPF troops patrolling in Anantnag recovered one IED fitted with a mobile phone. The chip and circuit had been removed and it was filled with PEK (Plastic Explosive Kirki ).
Even fidayeen attacks in J-K have come down this year. According to Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, in 2005, there were 15 fidayeen attacks. This year, only three attacks have happened.

Prince Turki seems to lead a rather "coincidental" life.
He does seem to be an interesting fellow.

"Does Darfur Have a Prayer?
Genocide in western Sudan proves nearly impossible to stop."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Almost every day for 12 months, Dan Teng'o, a Christian relief worker from Kenya, talked with violence-fleeing refugees from Darfur in the western region of Sudan. All too often, he said, gaunt refugees arrived at border camps too weak to do much more than sound out a few words."
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Over time, migration has changed the ethnic makeup of Darfur. More black Africans have been trekking into Darfur, so that today they number up to 65 percent of all the people there."
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Religious differences also contribute to the tense climate. Most Darfurians practice Sufism, a mystical expression of Islam. But Sudan's national leaders are Sunni Arab Muslims and are closely linked to the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood, a wellspring of terrorism in the Middle East. A few democratic Sudanese intellectuals charge that government forces use extreme Islamic propaganda laced with Arab racism to spur conflict in Darfur."

Israeli Arab Caught Trying to Repeat Park Hotel-Type Bombing
23:07 Dec 17, '06 / 26 Kislev 5767
by Ezra HaLevi
A gag order was lifted Sunday permitting the reporting of an Israeli Arab arrested two weeks ago before he could carry out an attack modeled after the Park Hotel massacre.
The 17-year-old Nazareth resident was issued in indictment Sunday and charged with planning to carry out a suicide bombing, conspiring to commit a crime and contact with a foreign agent.
Israeli intelligence caught the young man expressing interest in carrying out a suicide bombing on two occasions using surveillance equipment. He was set to receive his explosive belt from Fatahs Al Aksa Brigades, but was arrested two days prior to the specified time.
He planned to blow up the packed lobby or dining room of Upper Nazareths Plaza Hotel. He said he chose the location due to its popularity with Israeli Jews and its light security.
The Israeli Arab, whose father is a citizen of the PA, said he was taunted by Islamic Jihad and Hamas men whenever he visited PA-areas and wanted to prove to them once and for all that he was loyal to the Palestinian cause.
