Well, with a new year, comes some new terms in France.
Basically "the youths" did not cause problems, but "the children"and "vandals" did present a probem this year.

Sunni anger over Saddam hanging spills into streets; mob breaks locks off revered Shiite shrine
Monday January 01, 2007
BAGHDAD, Iraq - After Sunni insurgents in February blasted the golden dome off Samarra's Al Askari mosque, one of the holiest Shiite shrines in the world, Shiite death squads appeared. The gruesome remains of tortured Sunnis began appearing daily in the streets of Baghdad.
A Sunni mob enraged over the chaotic execution of Saddam Hussein took their symbolic revenge on Al Askari Sunday. They broke the locks off the bomb-shattered building, and marched through carrying a mock coffin and photo of the dictator.
This deliberate, public provocation could signal that many Sunnis who have remained on the sidelines of Iraq's sectarian bloodshed will no longer remain there.
Monday's protest came on a day that saw the U.S. military kill six Iraqis during a raid on the offices of a prominent Sunni political figure that turned into pitched battle. Members of al-Qaida in Iraq were thought to be hiding there.

Rogers woman shoots intruder (AR)
Benton Daily Record ^ | January 1, 2007 | Jamie Brunk
Posted on 01/01/2007 8:47:51 PM PST by DaveLoneRanger
Jodi Qasem remained shaken Sunday afternoon after an early morning ordeal that ended in her shooting an intruder.
The last time Qasem, of 1819 Beth Drive in Rogers, remembers looking at the clock Sunday morning, it was 5: 15 a. m. She soon heard a door open somewhere in the home and thought it odd. She was expecting her husband to come home from work sometime in the near future, but not that early.
The next thing I knew, (a man ) was in my bedroom, she said with a slight tremor in her voice.
She chased the man through the house and eventually out of the house. As she ran outside to make sure he was gone, the unidentified man grabbed her. Qasem had her new. 22- caliber handgun in her hand and she shot the man.
It was pointed at his belly, she said. I saw the muzzle flash.
Qasem said she that during the incident she yelled at the man several times, but he never said a word, including when he was shot. The man stumbled and fled.
I ran back in and called 911, she said. (Police ) were here in 30 seconds.
Qasem bought the gun shortly after she found a peeping tom peering in her windows. She said the peeping tom had the same build as the intruder, but she didnt know if they are the same person. She said she could tell he was wearing a hooded shirt and that he was probably white or Hispanic definitely not African-American.
Qasem said she is concerned because the man hasnt been found.
I want him caught, she said Sunday afternoon.
Rogers Police Sgt. Kelly Cradduck said the call to the Rogers Police Department came in at 5: 58 a. m.
She had a right to defend her home, he said.
Licenses are not required to keep a gun in the home. The only requirements are that the owner be at least 21 years old, not a convicted felon and must be a U. S. citizen. Qasem said she is an avid hunter and is used to handling.

"Christian woman facing fight for sons
Battle is over husband's desire to see them 'good Muslims or dead'"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A Christian woman who once served as an FBI informant on her husband's alleged support of terrorism now is seeking divorce from the self-described radical Muslim who told her he would be proud if their two teen sons blew themselves up for Allah.
But she's finding herself on her own completely after a judge allowed her lawyer to withdraw, refused to allow an interested lawyer from appearing in her court, and then refused to allow time for any other replacement to be found before today's trial.
At stake are Rosine Collin Ghawji's sons, whose futures have been defined by her husband as being "good Muslims" or dead, she said.
The situation is developing in the case in which Mrs. Ghawji is seeking not only her freedom from her husband, Maher Ghawji, but also to protect her sons Louis and Takek from any violent Islamic plans their father may have for them.
Joe Kaufman, who has run an anti-terrorism organization for several years, noted that both of the Ghawji sons have, in e-mails and other communications, told friends their father was planning to take them to Syria against their will, and one noted that his grandfather has promised to beat him up when he arrived there."

"Conservatives Push for Counter-Terror Divestment"
By Nathan Burchfiel
CNSNews.com Staff Writer
January 02, 2007
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(CNSNews.com) - The United Nations Security Council has voted to impose sanctions on Iranian nuclear and missile programs, but some American conservatives argue that U.S. state governments can have a greater impact on Tehran's nuclear activities by pulling money out of companies that do business with the terror-sponsoring nation.
"Security Council sanctions on Iran are virtually useless, they're so watered down," Christopher Holton told Cybercast News Service on Friday.
"Iran's revenue stream from various economic activities, especially oil and gas, enables it to have those programs and there's been nothing done to put any pressure on Iran to ... in terms of economic sanctions, which is really what needs to be done."
Holton is the Director of DivestTerror.org, a project of the conservative Center for Security Policy that urges U.S. public pension systems to divest from companies that do business in terrorist-sponsoring nations."

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Office of the Spokesman
This information is current as of today, Tue Jan 02 2007 03:11:40 GMT-0800.
THAILAND
January 1, 2007
This Public Announcement is being issued to alert U.S. Citizens traveling to and residing in Thailand of a series of bombs that exploded in the Bangkok metropolitan area during the evening of December 31, 2006 and shortly after midnight on January 1, 2007. This Public Announcement expires January 31, 2007.
At approximately 1800 hours on December 31, 2006, bombs exploded at five different locations throughout Bangkok, including Bangkoks Victory Monument, various police traffic control booths, and in the parking lot of a shopping mall. These bombs killed three Thai citizens and injured over two dozen additional Thai citizens.
Shortly after midnight on January 1, 2007, two additional bombs exploded near the World Trade Center shopping mall on Rama 1 Road in Bangkoks main shopping district. One bomb exploded near a pedestrian footbridge and the second in a beer garden. Bangkoks largest New Years celebration, the Bangkok Countdown, was to be held at this location, but had been cancelled by local authorities after the bombings earlier that evening. Six foreign tourists and an unknown number of Thai citizens were injured in these bombings.
The U.S. Embassy has confirmed that no Americans were injured or killed in any of the bombings. Additionally, the bombings appear to be limited to the Bangkok area. No incidents have been reported in any cities outside of Bangkok, including Chiang Mai and the popular beach resorts in Thailand.
Given the fluidity of the current situation, the Department of State advises all American Citizens residing in or traveling to Bangkok to continue to monitor events closely, to remain indoors when possible, to avoid any large public gatherings, and to exercise discretion when moving about Bangkok.
The Department of State and the Embassy in Bangkok are continuing to follow developments closely. For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department's Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings, and Public Announcements can be found. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays). American citizens traveling or residing in Thailand are encouraged to register with the Department of State or the U.S. Embassy. The Embassy is located at 95 Wireless Road in Bangkok. The American Citizen Services Unit of the U.S. Embassy can be reached by calling 66-2-205-4049 and by e-mail at ACSBKK@State.gov.
