The sweet old couple who live behind us, nursing serious health problems of their own, lost their only daughter on November 7th, after a long, painful struggle with cancer.

The little old lady across the street went to hospital last night by ambulance, all alone, because my husband couldn't leave me, and her only daughter wouldn't break away from her holiday dinner party.

So just on my street alone, and without even considering how much your sweet notes mean to me, I count myself one lucky woman. Thank you all, more than you know for your words of encouragement, and friendship. I'm pretty scared but you are helping me keep my promise not to whine. Hey! I wanna be a stiff upper lipped steel magnolia about all this. You've already helped me...more than I know how to say.

Of all the luck, I had to go to work late yesterday afternoon and got back late enough to not even check in. Thank you Suzanne for the thread and thank you Springman for the ping. I saw your ping this morning about the same time YaYa decided to talk about the difficulty and pain of others rather than about herself.

You're a trooper, YaYa, get the rest you need, get well, and get back to us soonest. You've been missed.

It is so true that when we feel low and sorry for ourselves God shows us that there are others worse off or not cared for like we are. How sad that she would cancel her dinner and go to the hospital with her was her grandmother or mother I just cannot imagine that.

Of course I meant would not cancel I still cannot believe that crumbs if I knew a neighbour that was alone and had been sent to the hospital and there was someone to stay with dad I would go with her.

in defense of mom/daughter's dinner. If I were going to hospital like that I would tell my son to just come over afterward.

There is very little initially any child/next of kin can do & often they just are sitting in waiting room anyway. Not permitted in treatment ER rooms.

If I die, I die & my son's presence or absence will not change that & if I am okay I would NEVER hold it against him for having a life, which I brought him up to have.. independent & free from Mom guilt 101.

The few times I have been involved PERSONALLY in this, I never knew who was or was not "there".

My years in hospital chaplaincy reaffirms to me that the waiting room scene is a real mixed bag & often makes it more difficult for patient as when it is possible for them to see people, it can be too many & often what the patient needs is rest & peace..not visiting folks who are often basket cases & crying or otherwise emotional.

my own mom is more "needy" than I am along these lines.. she would ask regularly who was "there" , "called" etc.. Drama queen, love em, walk to a different drummer

YaYa, I get pinged to a lot of prayer threads and while I try to pray for all of them at least a little, it is God who apportions the burdens to me in prayer. I don't know what you are facing other than the need to recover from surgery, but I find myself praying for you a lot. I even woke up today with the need to pray for you on my mind (and I did.)

I'm one of those intercessors who truly prays "by assignment" as God burdens me; as Chuck Pierce says, "There are different types of intercessors. Those who pray by assignment are not the type of intercessors you want to go up to after church and hand them a list of things to pray for. They'll pray for you, all right, but where they are really effective is when God gives them a burden." Your situation, dear YaYa, came to me by way of divine burden. I hope these words encourage you!
