Sort of like saying the Pope seems Catholic.

How much of the "Contract with America" did Newt get put into legislation? Very little. And why has he been so chummy with Hillary Clinton? Like I said. You can forgive a man a great deal, but has he learned to keep his zipper up?

Nothing that you posted to my reply remotely addresses whether or not Newt is a conservative, which seems to be a point you were confused about

Of course, you have McCain running who is a conservative like I'm the Pope

Or better yet, Rudy is running, who is pro gay, anti gun, pro abortion, real good leadership abilities but certainly lacks anything that resembles a conservative bone in his body

As for Newt, being chummy with Cankles Clinton, she is a Senator after all. Just because Newt worked with her doesn't mean he is her lap dog. After all that's the way adults operate.

Actually, with a sitting Democratic President Bill Clinton and a Democratic controlled Senate, Newt accomplished quite a bit

Also parts of the Contract were not actually laws being passed, but policy changes in the way we were governed

"How much of the "Contract with America" did Newt get put into legislation?"

....VERY LITTLE!? !

The most charitable reply to that statement is 'you have a very poor memory'.

The correct answer is virtually ALL of it.

Witness:
"The ten items in the Contract were all acted upon in the first 100 days of the new Congress, which is what the signatories had pledged. Nine of the ten items in the Contract passed the House: Only the constitutional amendment on term limits (which required a two-thirds vote) was defeated. Out of a total of 302 roll call votes on issues related to the Contract With America, the conservatives prevailed on 299 of them. A balanced budget amendment passed in the House by a 300-123 margin but was subsequently defeated as it fell one vote short of the two-thirds needed for passage in the U.S. Senate. The overall margin by which the items in the Contract were passed averaged about 70 percent despite the fact that the Republicans only held a 12-seat margin over the Democrats (52-48 percent, the smallest House majority margin in 40 years). Given the notorious lack of party discipline in the American Congress, the passage by a large majority of nearly all of the items in the Contract was a remarkable achievement."

This stuff is quickly and easily found .... on the internet.

Yours for accurate recollection,
skeptoid

Duh! Newt was responsible for republicans regaining the house after 40 plus years of being in the minority. Where the hell have you been?
