Airport Arrest Turns Up Nuclear Info Nov 16 9:36 AM US/Eastern

A man was arrested at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after officials say they found him carrying more than $78,000 in cash and a laptop computer containing information about nuclear materials and cyanide. Sisayehiticha Dinssa, an unemployed U.S. citizen, was arrested Tuesday after a dog caught the scent of narcotics on cash he was carrying, according to an affidavit filed in court.

When agents asked him if he had any cash to declare, he said he had $18,000, authorities said. But when agents checked his luggage, they found an additional $59,000. When they scrolled through his laptop, they said they found the mysterious files.

At a court hearing Wednesday, Dinssa was ordered held in custody until at least until Monday at the request of prosecutors.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Leonid Feller argued Dinssa was a potential risk to the community and federal agents want to get a warrant to search his computer more thoroughly, The Detroit News reported Thursday. U.S. Magistrate Donald Scheer approved Feller's request to detain him.

Dinssa, who is from Dallas, arrived in Detroit from Nigeria by way of Amsterdam and was headed for Phoenix, Feller said. He is charged with concealing more than $10,000 in his luggage, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, the Detroit Free Press reported.

A message seeking comment was left Thursday with his lawyer, Leroy Soles.

What we have here is a terrorist coming into the country with a big rubber stamp on his forehead that says "Arrest me or I keel you, you evil children of the Great Satan!" And because of the frickin' politically correct hell we are saddled with, instead of just pulling the guy aside and searching them, they have to do it under the guise of breaking a law.

The old "whack!.... Uh, sir, I pulled you over because your tail light is out, but since your being so cooperative with me today, do you mind if I just take a quick look through your trunk?"

The issue isn't carrying the currency, but concealing the currency from customs.

It's none of the Government's business how much money I carry, in or out or around the country..............

Just see what happens when you try to deposit +$10K CASH in any US bank. The tax man will want to ask you some questions.

All goes back to 1913, the 16th ammendment and the loss of a nation from the people.

Interesting that he retained a lawyer - in Michigan - named Leroy T. Soles. The same lawyer that defended 4 members of a terror cell infiltrating the Detroit Metro Airport and plotting attacks on the US, Jordan and Turkey.

http://www.hvk.org/articles/0902/9.html

Or, his defense of one of the 5 men in Dearborn, Michigan who fraudulently obtained trucking licenses and were going to be hauling dangerous explosive chemicals.

http://www.hvk.org/articles/0902/9.html

Why choose this lawyer? I see no indication this man has ties to Michigan...

Didn't say it was illegal and maybe not alarming on its own. But it is concerning that a guy is traveling through Detroit from Nigeria carrying large amounts of money, nuke and cyanide information.

But I'm sure he has a perfectly good reason.

"I'm willing to bet sometime in your life you carried cash that had the scent of drugs."

I read a article some time back that someone had analysed money, thousands of bills, from all over the US. Other than having every kind of germ/bacteria imaginable, every bill checked had cocaine residue...every bill.

You can absolutely refuse to be searched before boarding an aircraft. The airline will then refuse you boarding. Walking is the only method of travel that is a right not a privilege.

You don't need authorization, but you do have to declare it. (Which means that customs agents can pretty much seize your cash indefinitely.) Even if this guy is clean, he'll likely never see the cash again.

Good catch on the lawyer's history. One would assume that he was retained prior to the arrest as a safeguard. One would then wonder who else this scumbag lawyer (redundant, I know) has on his 'might call one day' list.

What is this article telling us??? Other than it's apparently illegal to carry U.S. currency and visit websites about nuclear weapons?

You're absolutely right. And actually, yes. It pretty much is illegal these days to carry large amounts of cash. Plenty of recent news stories bear this out.

probable cause is wherever you can find it...

"... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one MAKES them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. ......just pass the the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted -- and you create a nation of law-breakers -- and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with." - p.411, Ayn Rand, ATLAS SHRUGGED, Signet Books, NY, 1957

Rounding error. 18.4K + 59.2K = 77.6K. Round off for 18, 59, and 78.
