A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

I spent a day over the weekend watching classic movies, staring actors like Bob Hope and Jimmy Stewart. What a great way to spend a rainy Sunday. I thought what a drastic comparison this is to the way things are today. I can't be bothered or care what Hollywood has to say today. The old movies show love of America with patriotic Hollywood Heroes. Now, all we see from Hollywood is anti-american propaganda.
There was a day when we could be proud of many Hollywood producers and actorswhen Hollywoods actors and producers actually had something worthy to say. They were patriotic and performed selfless acts. They served our country in the military, entertained our troops, and supported our troops. They even left successful careers to serve in the military to defend America. These heroes, I admire. Tinsel town has since lost it's shine. Here are a few of my favorites. Who are your favorites?
(Mega-Movie Star when war broke out) Although he was beyond the draft age at the time the U.S. entered WW II, Clark Gable enlisted as a private in the AAF on Aug. 12, 1942 at Los Angeles. Capt. Gable returned to the U.S. in Oct. 1943 and was relieved from active duty as a major on Jun. 12, 1944.
James Stewart Entered the Army Air Force as a private and worked his way to the rank of Colonel. Stewart earned the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, France's Croix de Guerre, and 7 Battle Stars during World War II. In peace time, Stewart continued to be an active member of the Air Force as a reservist, reaching the rank of Brigadier General before retiring in the late 1950s.
Bob Hope's commitment and dedication to the morale of America's servicemen and women is entertainment history, indeed, world history. His humor and wit was absolutely brilliant. A legend for all time.
An interesting website Hollywood's World War II Heroes
Here are a few scenes from some of my favorite movies. Can you guess who they are and from what movie? :)

Thanks for the "Welcome home".
England was very interested in our politics and the recent election. They are big beleivers in global warming, they do not like Blair, they appear to like President Bush, they are about to institute a green tax. Saw the usual touristy things, Parliament,10Downing street,Windsor,Bath, and much more, Harold's. The pounds to our dollar yike! Everything costs so much in England as opposed to Euro's in Italy.
So many lines or que's as they call it.
Rome was way to over crowded with tourists. I did enjoy a private villa winery in Tuscany, the architecture every where you turn is spectacular. But it was a bigger culture shock in Italy than it was in London. There are only 2-3 english tv channels, CNN international, SkyNews and the BBC channels. They appeared to "rub it in" that the "Republican's lost much to the dismay of President Bush" was their comment, rarely can you get a english/italian menu, everything is in Italian.
Well that's about it for now, just having some jetlag going on and have to wash clothes unpack etc.

I haven't seen the movie in a long time.
The last time it was on I had to work and walked in on the end.

I LOVE this thread, GeeBee! You did a beautiful job putting this together. The "star" backgrounds are wonderful - you have such a knack for finding the perfect backgrounds to showcase your topics.
This is my favorite movie star of the old school. I just loved his swagger and I loved his voice. John Wayne was my hero. Now we need Joe Brower (I'm pretty sure it's Joe) to come and post John Wayne reciting "Pledge of Allegiance".
