A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

I spent a day over the weekend watching classic movies, staring actors like Bob Hope and Jimmy Stewart. What a great way to spend a rainy Sunday. I thought what a drastic comparison this is to the way things are today. I can't be bothered or care what Hollywood has to say today. The old movies show love of America with patriotic Hollywood Heroes. Now, all we see from Hollywood is anti-american propaganda.
There was a day when we could be proud of many Hollywood producers and actorswhen Hollywoods actors and producers actually had something worthy to say. They were patriotic and performed selfless acts. They served our country in the military, entertained our troops, and supported our troops. They even left successful careers to serve in the military to defend America. These heroes, I admire. Tinsel town has since lost it's shine. Here are a few of my favorites. Who are your favorites?
(Mega-Movie Star when war broke out) Although he was beyond the draft age at the time the U.S. entered WW II, Clark Gable enlisted as a private in the AAF on Aug. 12, 1942 at Los Angeles. Capt. Gable returned to the U.S. in Oct. 1943 and was relieved from active duty as a major on Jun. 12, 1944.
James Stewart Entered the Army Air Force as a private and worked his way to the rank of Colonel. Stewart earned the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, France's Croix de Guerre, and 7 Battle Stars during World War II. In peace time, Stewart continued to be an active member of the Air Force as a reservist, reaching the rank of Brigadier General before retiring in the late 1950s.
Bob Hope's commitment and dedication to the morale of America's servicemen and women is entertainment history, indeed, world history. His humor and wit was absolutely brilliant. A legend for all time.
An interesting website Hollywood's World War II Heroes
Here are a few scenes from some of my favorite movies. Can you guess who they are and from what movie? :)

I was thinking while putting this together about special effects. Now we have all this technology etc. I saw a photo of the airplane chasing Carey Grant and then them on Mount Rushmore, in North By Northwest. They were so creative and clever in the old movies.

I'm with You GeeBee re: Cary Grant!!!! Thank God for A M C channel so I could get to see/ enjoy this man's acting/comedic/dramatic/talents and his good looks to boot!!!! I'll never forget when my daughter was about 10?...She was awake after we went to bed and apparently watched Arcenic and Old Lace.
The next morning she asked me, so who is this Cary Grant person? She told me..that man talks fast and there's a lot of dialogue in that movie. LOL.. It made me smile. She has always been hooked on that era, ie. Sinatra, Como..The Rat Pack......even though a couple of generations apart.

I see you have Buster Keaton included in the pictures. Thank you.
That man was unbelievable, especially because he did his own stunts in his movies. One of my favorites.
I woke up one night with the tv still on to one of his movies. I've been a fan since.

Sorry this pic is so small CMac. Found it that size. Small but very pretty photo for you. I would have found you a J. W. but wanted Louie to get that ping. I figured I. B was another fave of yours, CMac, based on the namesake rose volley ping. ;oD
