My husband had access to voter vault and he'd use their list to make phone calls. Some of the people listed as Republicans would tell him that they were staunch Dems and would never vote for a Republican.

We have too many people moving into Arizona, Colorado, etc., from California bringing their blue voting with them. I don't understand why they want to escape California and it's high taxes, strict environmental rules that makes it so expensive to do business in the state and bring the same patterns with them. If they don't like the fire, then either get out of the pan and change their ways or stay where they are IMO.

He isn't the only dem that is taking control of sensitive committees that belongs in prison. The difference between dems and GOP is our guys are in prison or resigned waiting trial and their guys get plum leadership positions.

I could not agree with you more. The biggest source of new residents in CO is from CA. I just wish they would stop trying to recreate here the mess they created there. They are also horrible drivers and worse in the snow and ice.

~LOL~ Morgan, I never even thought about that... most Californian's are terrible freeway drives in the rain can't imagine what they are like in snow. Guess having 300 days a year of sunshine limits the driving skills...

I, too, wish they would check their blue state voting and attitudes at the border.

Evidently it never occurred to her that NO president can just take over ANY state's National Guard without permission from the Governor. Despite pleading from the President, BlankO was determined that she was going to keep control, never mind taht lives were lost due to her decision.

Actually, the President can nationalize any states National Guard at any time and the governor can't do a damned thing about it.  I think it was Eisenhower who did it to George Wallace and Kennedy did it in Arkansas, in both cases to enforce court ordered ending of official segregation.  The problem is that as a nationalized force they fall under Posse Comitatus and can't be involved in law enforcement, only keeping the piece.  They lose the power to arrest, for example.

Bush wanted to put the National Guard under the command of the Homeland Security folks to clean up control and logistics issues, but not nationalize them so that they would still be technically able to act in a law enforcement role.  That's what Blanco refused to allow.

I've submitted a proposal to the offices of Frist, Alexander and Blackburn, along with the commanding officer of the Coast Guard, of expanding the Coast Guard to include responsibility for our borders not just our sea boundaries.  I've suggested that we pattern 3 to 6 units based on the TO&E of a Marine Expeditionary Unit, adapting their equipment to a SAR and border enforcement role.  Station them strategically along the southern border, say places like North and East of Mexicali, South of Tucson, in the vicinity of El Paso, across the Rio Grande from Lajitas, the Laredo area and near Brownsville.  They could operate along the border in conjunction with the border patrol, which would probably be folded into their command and control structure.  They would also perform the traditional SAR and counter smuggling tasks that are part of the culture of the Coast Guard.  In addition  they'd be available as a rapid reaction force for natural or man made disasters anywhere in the country.  I'd staff them with Marines who were looking to move on but not yet ready to get out of uniform.  You could also make it possible to chop them to the Marines or Marine units to them as needed.

So far no one's gotten back to me, though a few friends in the Marine Reserves I've talked to about it seemed intrigued.

The majority of Americans just rejected strong border enforcement and sending illegals home asap.

Just ask JD. He couldn't win on that platform in Arizona.

The rhetoric over the border is now over. The Dems call the shots from now on. GWB's border plan will become the conservative one.

That is the Dhimmicrat / DBM spin.  Don't buy it.  Not only is JD still in the race (though it's a long shot) but his opponent was rhetorically just as tough on border enforcement.  And on top of that several voter initiatives (state constitutional amendments?) passed that were very tough on illegal immigration, including requiring english for all government functions, denying benefits to illegals, etc.

If JD goes down it will most likely be from being tainted in the Abramoff scandal.  I've posted details of this elsewhere on this thread and I think the charges are bogus, but the DBM has labeled him one of the members of the Republican culture of corruption.

Thank you for that clarification. Could the NG in Louisiana be activated by Bush to keep the looters off the street? Could they shoot to kill?

Didn't X42 break the law when he had Weasley Clark send in the tanks and flame throwers at WACO?

How Rush Limbaugh's day starts:
1) Wake up.
2) Go to http://www.lexisnexis.com/ to see what the world has said about him.
3) Get out of bed.

Did you ever see the movie Other People's Money, with Danny Devito and Gregory Peck?  It was supposed to be anti-business and capitalism but turned out being pretty fair and showing that the liberal feel good approach isn't always the right thing to do.

Anyway, every morning Devito's character, Lawrence Garfield, known affectionately as Larry the Liquidator, would wake up and, from bed, peck away on his computer, Carmen, asking her what had happened to his latest stock target.  That picture is what your comment immediately brought to mind.

from the movie:

Memorable Quotes from
Other People's Money (1991)

Kate Sullivan: Someday the laws will change to put you out of business.
Lawrence Garfield: Change the laws all you want, but you can't stop the game. I'll still by here. I adapt.

[Kate offers Lawrence 'greenmail' to drop an unfriendly take-over bid]
Kate Sullivan: It's not illegal.
Lawrence Garfield: It's immoral - a distinction lawyers ignore.

Lawrence Garfield: I love money more than the things it can buy... but what I love more than money is other people's money.

Lawrence Garfield: Since when do you have to be hungry to eat a doughnut. It doesn't taste any better.

Lawrence Garfield: Make as much as you can for as long as you can. Whoever has the most when he dies is the winner.

Lawrence Garfield: I take from the Rich, I give to the middle class... Well, the upper middle class.

Lawrence Garfield: I gave her "Hiawatha" when all she wanted was a touchdown.

Lawrence Garfield: I never met a person so hard to feed.

Lawrence Garfield: Would you like a donut?
Kate Sullivan: No thank you. I'm not hungry.
Lawrence Garfield: Gotta be hungry to eat a donut? I never heard of such a thing.

Bill Coles: Can I speak frankly?
Lawrence Garfield: No. Lie to me! Tell me how thrilled you are to know me. I always speak frankly. I hate people who say, "Can we speak frankly?" It means they're bullshittin' me the rest of the time.

Lawrence Garfield: You know, at one time there must've been dozens of companies making buggy whips. And I'll bet the last company around was the one that made the best goddamn buggy whip you ever saw. Now how would you have liked to have been a stockholder in that company? You invested in a business and this business is dead. Lets have the intelligence, lets have the DECENCY to sign the death certificate, collect the insurance, and invest in something with a future.

Fair enough phsstpok, but I still believe the border issue is now dead.

I'm aware of his Abramoff ties, but he was such a vocal supporter of tough border enforcement, his (possible) loss is still a message.

I understand his opponent supported comprehensive border reform that supposedly is no solution, to the disconcerted border bots here.

Could the NG in Louisiana be activated by Bush to keep the looters off the street?

I think only to enforce a lawful curfew, probably imposed by the Governor or legislature.  But they wouldn't have arrest powers for those who refused.

Could they shoot to kill?

I'd assume not unless it was to save their own lives or the lives of others.  Certainly not to stop looting.  Burning buildings would be taken as an act of violence that endangers others, so shooting an arsonist would fall under the self defense or defense of others reasoning.

Didn't X42 break the law when he had Weasley Clark send in the tanks and flame throwers at WACO?

I'm definitely among those who believe that that was a clear violation of the laws of our country and the constitution of the United States.  Those people were the "real threat" of terrorism so far as Clinton and company were concerned.  You know, Christians with guns.  Yes, they may have been crazy as a bitsy bug, but so are all of the Muslims I've ever met (all of them) and we aren't burning them to death in their houses of worship.

I still could not bring myself to vote for a Labour, Lib Dem or independent if there was a Conservative Party candidate on the ballot regardless of what their stance on issues were.

Then you wouldn't have been in a position to vote for Winston Churchill:

In 1900, he was elected Conservative MP for Oldham but in 1904, he left the Conservative Party and joined the Liberal Party, which, he believed, better represented his economic views on free trade. From 1906 to 1908, he was a Liberal MP for northwest Manchester and from 1908 to 1922, he was MP for Dundee.

<snip>

After his electoral defeat in 1922, Winston Churchill left the Liberal Party and became the MP for Epping in 1924 standing as a ‘constitutional anti-socialist’. Stanley Baldwin, leader of the Conservative Party, appointed him as Chancellor of the Exchequer (a post he held from 1924 to 1929) and Winston Churchill officially rejoined the Conservative Party in 1925.

Were I living in Connecticut I would have voted for Lieberman as the best choice, regardless of his party.  Had I been of voting age in NY when Daniel Patrick Moynihan was our Senator I probably would have voted for him, even though he was as liberal and partisan as just about any Democrat ever.  But he also had the benefit of being fundamentally honest and exceptionally insightful about issues like liberal welfare policies destroying black families.

By the way, while looking up something completely unrelated I came across these great Churchill quotes:

I think these are aparticularly ppropriate to our current situation.

Nope. Not afraid of their 'neighbors'. Just want more goodies from the government and think they'll get it from the dems. First thing Corslime did was raise the sales tax. Now he has more taxes in mind.

One thing everyone needs to do this week is to write down all the promises we can think of for each elected Democrat so we can compare results to promises. A lot of blue-dog Democrats were elected and now they will have to be monitored as to keeping their promises. I also plan on making notes on any that are not kept.

Morgan, why don't you start a thread that we can all add to?

I also think we should make the list not only of the promises of the Democrats, but also of the Republicans. I've got Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker for senators as well as Marsha Blackburn for representative, but I can also dig up stuff for Democrat Steve Cohen, who took the neighboring house district that Harold Ford vacated for his Senate run. Keeping track of what each of them did and didn't promise is obviously important, based on the results as well as the misinformation that was used this election cycle.

Knee jerk and Reactionary are no way to get ahead

this reminds me of Dean Wormer's line to Flounder from Animal House:

Dean Vernon Wormer: Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son.

Of course the list of "big time knee jerkers, Savage, Boortz and Ingraham" that you provide don't have nearly the charm or redeeming qualities that the kids from Delta House did

I plan on doing a list as much as I can. There are too many for anyone to cover them all. I have been running one on our senator, Ken Salazar, and I plan on keeping that up. More as I am able to do it and time permits.

I'm not sure if we can create a long term thread on something like this nor how to go about it. It's a good idea but I am unaware of how to do that on FR. If you have a suggestion, I'm all ears. Perhaps Mo1 or someone would be willing to maintain a database list of names where we could add things? I can but I don't have enough time to do it. I'm sorry.

We could do it on a blog or on a series of blogs, maybe state by state. We could get volunteers to keep up with specific people. There's 535 members of congress so that would be not an overwhelming task. I bet we have somebody in almost every House district and I'm certain we have to have someone from every state.

A searchable database would certainly be the best approach. Maybe one of the political blogs, such as RedState or TownHall, that offer free space would be willing to work with us to set this up.

My sense is there would have to be some oversight so someone does not post something not acceptable.  I'm thinking of one or more people per state who would be willing to verify the news account before posting it.  That would mean enlisting someone per state as a contact person.

PHP or XML would probably be the best for searching it but Excel would work too since most people don't have the ability to use the former. If it's done by state, there would only need to be 50 posters instead of 535.   In otherwords, make the list by state and fill in the blanks.  Anohter method could be a blog format but that could really get long over two years.

I'm not trying to make this difficult but it has to be credible to be successful.  Town Hall or even Media Research Org might be willing to host it too as long as it maintains accuracy and credibility.  If done, it would be a good source for FR posters to add to complaints on individuals.

To be honest with you, I think you are more qualified to do this than me or anyone else.  What do YOU suggest?

 Juat a few thoughts.

Just thought of more.

We could call it the "Accountability Project" and list it on FR anyway. Then, just add the states in a list and ask for people to add information.

What about that? It might be forced into the vanity area but it might be worth a try.
