For Liberal Jews basking in the glory of the Democratic Party take-over

November 09, 2006 For Liberal Jews basking in the glory of the Democratic Party take-over Political Analysis from an impeccable source.

And, as warned multiple times prior to the election but, of little concern to those whose primary cause celebre has been stem cell research, third term abortion, phantom loss of female rights and the support of the refugees from Arab terrorism in Darfur! - jsk

Four staunch Senate supporters of Israel lost their re-election contests – Rick Santorum (PA), Mike DeWine (OH), Jim Talent (MO) and George Allen (VA). Allen’s replacement, Jim Webb, who has recently advocated a “regional approach” in the Middle East, is raising concern.

Democrat Senator, Joe Biden (who is running for President in ’08) will take over the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. While his record vis-a- vis Israel is much better than that of Dick Lugar, whom he will replace, Biden can be erratic at times.

Pat Leahy, who will chair the Judiciary Committee, is also in line to chair the Foreign Operations Subcommittee of Appropriations. He has been a frequent critic of Israel and has supported relatively few positive initiatives.

In the House: Five very senior Democrats who will assume committee chairmanships must be ranked in the bottom 10% of the class (of 435) when it comes to Israel-related issues:

David Obey (Appropriations) John Conyers (Judiciary) John Dingell (Energy and Commerce) George Miller (Education and Work Force) Nick Rahall (Resources)

Recently all five voted against the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act, which passed 361 to 37!

While Speaker Nancy Pelosi has not been that involved in our issues – she has been generally supportive and has ties to the Jewish community, the key contest will be for Majority Leader. If Jack Murtha (not good), beats Steny Hoyer (excellent), for Majority Leader – it will really be bad news. A lack of support from many in the Black Caucus also continues to be a problem, as well as the emerging influence of the extreme liberal wing of the Democratic Party exemplified by MoveOn.org. Two newcomers, Gerald McNerney in California – a protégé of Israel-bashing former Rep. Pete McCloskey, and the first Muslim Congressman, Keith Ellison, can be expected to join the “bad guys” list – taking the place of the departed but unlamented Cynthia McKinney.

On the positive side, Rep. Tom Lantos is in line to take over as chair of the House International Relations Committee. Israel has no stronger, effective, committed supporter in Congress. The new chair of the Foreign Operation Appropriation Committee will be Rep. Nita Lowey, also a big plus. Assuming Rep. Ike Skelton takes over as chair of Armed Services, there is no problem here. Finally, John Hostettler (R-IN), who has a poor record of support, was defeated by Brad Ellsworth whom the PAC supported. “

While the direction of the Democratic Party leftward is troubling, it could be offset somewhat by the election of a number of new moderate/centrist Members. At least six new Jewish Members – all Dems – were also elected.

Bottom Line: Thankfully, we can expect continued bi-partisan support for Israel in the 110th Congress. But there is a small cadre of 40-50 House Members (excuse me, Mr. Expert, but how is a “cadre of 40-50 House members, equaling near 10% of the House, “small” Jsk) who cannot be considered friendly, all Democrats except for half a dozen. There are also several Senators who are problematic. This all means we have our work cut out for us in the ’08 election cycle – which is already shaping up.

Really?
ALL American Jews?
Gee. How did you get to know so many American Jews?
I have been Jewish and American for a long time and I don't know ALL American Jews.

You must travel in different circles than I do.
There are many American Jews that are supporters of the Democrat party, and are liberals.
There are many that do not.
If you are confining your comments to specific American Jews, that is just fine and supportable.
A wide ranging generalization is both incorrect and
diminishes the point that you are trying to make.

It is accurate and correct. Statistical outliers don't affect the outcome.

the term socialist revolutionary still rings true to me. there are no mitigating circumstances that would excuse one from the instigation of socialist revolution that causes so much pain.

the bottom line.....they should all stop hiding behind the "social justice" routine.

it's all camoflage.

Stalin killed more Jews than HITLER.

But history is going to repeat it's self if we don't wise up.

You cannot build heaven on earth through socialism / communism.

While Stalin was murdering away many stayed in denial.

Many thought all they had to do to avoid persecution was renounce being Jewish.

Today the same bunch of stupid bunch of leftists ( like
the ones who supported the Soviet Union)think all they have to
do is renounce and sacrifice Israel and the Fascists
(now Islam among others) will stop trying to kill them.

Talk about history repeating it's self.

Don't worry we will all pay the price for this one.

It would be nice to believe that liberal Jews thought of America first. That said, it's clear that this generation of American Jews cares much less about Israel than did their parents. If they loved America, they would not vote Democratic. But even if If they cared only about the survival of Israel, they would not vote Democratic. On the House side, nearly all the committee chairmen--Hastings, Rangel , Conyers--are anti-Israel. Conyers, who represents a heavily Muslim district is vehemently anti-Israeli. Democrats just elected the first Muslim--a known anti-semite-- to Congress with the votes of Muslim Somali refugees in Minneopolis. Democrats may nominate leftist Third World apologist Barack Hussein Obama as their presidential candidate. This is all happening in the context of a world in which Iran is developing the bomb and promising to use it on Israel. America is Israel's only friend in the world. With Barack and supporting cast, this friendship goes. Even if Hillary is elected, Israel is in difficulty. The coming Democrat enforced surrender in Iraq will so demoralize the US Armed Forces that no one will join up for a generation. Why go to war for a country when half the population will stab you in the back? The Israelis will be on their own. Which means they are finished. Time to cash in those Israeli bonds.

It has nothing to do with being Jewish.
Just like some claim to be Catholic and condone, commit, and legislate abortion.
The world is divided up into two types.

You either LOVE GOD and live like he wants you to or,
you hate him and try to kill his little ones and destroy
every thing good he has given us.

Notice they only want to do what the Torah / Old Testament forbids.
How do you think the left got it's name?

The author forgets that it is hard to proclaim the GOP as the champion of Israel when this Administration employs Hamas Spokesperson Condi Rice, who said creating a Pali terror state was "America's greatest legacy". Perhaps if Bush had fired this incompetent Arab stooge Jews would have felt a bit better.

As a Jew, I cannot tell you how aggravating it is to get to a family get-together as the only Republican and have your family spout MSM talking points at you.

Blacks are blindly Democratic, but many are poor and not well educated. What excuse do my fellow Jews have, especially given the growing Jew-hatred among the Dems?

Fixed that for you. I don't think it's because they are Jewish that they don't put America first.

The Israelis will be on their own. Which means they are finished.

Hmm. I don't believe that to be true. You must be a glass-is-half-empty kinda person. I think Israel has a lot more going for it at this point that you're giving them credit for.

I think it's pretty well established that there is a strong anti-Israel tendency among liberal Jews.

American Jews are much more likely to be upset because some small southern town has a nativity in a city park or some minister says a prayer at a football game that if a terrorist bomber kills 100 Israeli citizens.

Oh please.

"Sometimes I think that American Christians care more about the future of Israel than American Jews."

So the natural reaction from the anti Israeli ACLU is to attack anything even remotely Christian as a sort of "payback"

I will say this about the Liberal Democratic Jew, they are principled, there principles are right out of Marx, but by golly, they stick to them no matter what.

Israel hopefully can weather the oncoming onslaught of hatred directed at them from inside the US. IMO, there will be more than few Israeli's who will be shocked to hear what they are about to hear coming from the US Congress....

The MSM is the biggest proponent of anti semitism, they won't consider it a problem at all.

Anyone ever actually watch CNN when it comes to Israel/Palestinian issues?

The good dems never said a word about Rwanda and they won't care a bit if Israel is attacked either.

Sickening but predictable.

I heard it explained on the Dennis Prager show: Jews are stereotyped a lot and they resent it. One of the stereotypes is that Jews are smart. Many Jews try to disprove this by being Democrats.
