The super rich pay little in taxes because they have little earned income. Most of it is passive income from dividends, rentals, interest bearing accounts and equity appreciation in stock. If they have earned income, they usually have enough losses in their passive income to counter anything they might owe. Passive income is not subject to payroll withholding taxes e.g. FICA, Medicare. Assets held over a year get capital gains tax rates of 15% for net gains.

I'm waiting for the same thing to happen here in newly-blue New Hampshire. The Dem gov was elected for a second term, and the first thing he says in his victory speech is that he's going to raise the mandatory school attendance age to 18! There's no way he can keep his "no taxes pledge" and still be able to fund the additional classrooms and teachers that idea will require.

And that was only the first item in his laundry list of give-aways...

We have seen several Robert Rubin threads. We need to keep eyes and ears open for other D statements, especially from those in office or shortly to be sworn in.

My friend, you are the exception and are rich.

I disagree with that as well. I draw a good salary, but the government takes half of it before it ever goes into my bank account. Robert Kiyosaki defines wealth by the number of days you can survive without having to go to work. You are "rich" when that number is infinite and work is optional. Even though I've paid off my home mortgage, the property tax on my home works out to $300/month. I'll never have the option of not working with that tax hanging over my head.

I keep forgetting my sarcasm tag.

You are rich using the lib definition of rich.

You have worked hard and I am sure make great sacrifices
to pay off your home.

I would like to clarify about people not noticing withholding. Many don't care, but some do.

The first thing he says in his victory speech is that he's going to raise the mandatory school attendance age to 18!

Meaning you can't leave high school until you are 18? Even if you have finished all 12 grades?

I don't get it. What is the problem he is trying to solve?

This is true...but, I think you know what my point was, if not for the lying liberal MSM and the people who gleam from the MSM what LITTLE information they carry with them into the voting booth, this election would not have gone as it did.

The steady drumbeat from the MSM on Iraq* Iraq*Iraq*Foley*Foley*Foley*GOP Corruption*GOP Corruption*GOP Corruption*Iraq*Iraq*Iraq*IRAQ*IRAQ...that is what handed this election to the deceitful-tax-hiking-dimocrats...

''Capital gains'' are dollars that have already been taxed at least twice, with (sometimes) the exception of inherited property. Taxing them again, at all, is the investment version of a VAT, no more and no less.

No, I did not have any cap gains on my tax return, due to Section 1256 (formulated and rammed through the Regress in 1986 by none other than Dan Rostenkowski (D) Caponeville.)

What is the problem he is trying to solve?

It's Lynch's way of solving the high school dropout problem, supposedly, but in reality, it'll be a windfall for the educational establishment.

In his own words, from an earlier speech:

"For our state to compete and our children to succeed, more of them must graduate from high school. Last year an estimated 2,300 of our students dropped out of high school. We must make it clear to our young people that we are not going to give up on them; or let them give up on themselves. We must change the law and require our children to stay in school until age 18."

"Along with the bipartisan sponsors of this legislation, I recognize that changing the compulsory attendance age is only one part of the solution."

"That is why this spring I will host a statewide summit to develop strategies for keeping our young people in school. We must think creatively by looking at alternative programs, vocational high schools, internships, night programs, and at the role of the community technical colleges."

"Our young people, and our state, cannot afford for us to fail. Every New Hampshire child should receive a high school diploma."

As an MD I am at the stage where I can start working less. If taxes go up, I will just work less. Not worth going to an early grave to keep less then 50 cents on the dollar. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way....

We must change the law and require our children to stay in school until age 18.

And what does he do about all the kids who have completed all the requirements to graduate but arent 18? Force them to keep coming to school and run up the taxpayers' costs for no purpose whatsoever?

A lot of kids graduate high school and go off to college at 17.

Maybe I should send him an email.

Good afternoon.
"This would be political suicide."

I've seen that argument put forth several times since November 7.

We can only hope those who think the DemocRATs will use common sense are right, but I don't have much faith in that being the case.

Wasn't a matter of "if", it was just a matter of "when" the RATS will expose their intentions.

personally I think if the kid wants to drop out at 14 they ought to let them, parental consent ofcourse. plus maybe a provision for the smart ones to go to college.
