Rush Limbaugh has it wrong. He stated Wednesday that "[c]onservatism did not lose, Republicanism lost last night. Republicanism, being a political party first, rather than an ideological movement, is what lost last night." (here) This statement a statement echoed by Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and other conservative pundits to whom a nation of shell-shocked conservatives turned for cathartic analysis fails a simple test. If the electorate was demanding conservatism, then why did strong, principled conservatives lose? Incumbent conservatives such as Rick Santorum, George Allen, J.D. Hayworth and Curt Weldon to name a few. Superb conservative newcomers such as Ken Blackwell and Michael Steele.
The actions of the electorate last Tuesday was an indiscriminate firing of Republicans, not a thoughtful weeding out of RINOs. It is true that Republicanism lost on Tuesday, but it lost in all its forms and that included the exact form of strong, clear conservatism that the movement desperately needs.

Yea well thats the problem isn't it....
I agree that, as voters, we must vote for the candidate who mostly closely represents our views. That should not mean, however, that we seek out candidates with positions we don't agree with when there are candidates who hold positions closer those we espouse, simply because they might be more electable. And I especially detest the idea of "molding" (i.e., lying about) one's positions on issues for the purpose of getting elected. It may be a naive position, but I still expect integrity of those who represent me. I'd rather know that my elected representative truly believes in what he says, even if I disagree, thank to know that he is just saying what I want to hear, but doesn't believe it.
I think Rudy would take MN.
Lets see, will he be nominated? IF not I'll vote for whoever except McCain
2 words: Ballot Initiatives.
The fact is, the majority of the American public are ignorant headline readers and all they know is Republicans:
-Are against the right to "choose."
-Hate minorities, especially blacks.
-Are hopelessly homophobic.
-Kill baby seals, every fish in the see and Caribou.
-Worship the rich and hate the poor.
-All belong to exclusive country clubs.
-Believe woman should not be allowed to work.
-Are stupid because they don't get their news from Letterman and John Stewart.
Etc.
The election is solidly behind us now. It is what it is. Staying focused on an election gone by makes we conservatives look like whiners crying in our beer. Ironically, the best thing we can do for the time being is to sit back and let the looney left pols go overboard with power. That furthers our cause like nothing else. Once the left gets knee deep in oppressive politics (it will not take long), we conservatives must loudly beat the drum to moderate Dim and Pub voters until the 2008 elections. Moderate voters must be kept constantly aware of how and why the leftist policies are so anti-American and dangerous. That is what will put Pubs back in power in 2008.
god help us. I hope SC dumps Graham in the '08 primary.
Exit polls are showing a lot that did because they were seen as the most conservative candidate. And given the way many in the GOP have governed they probably were.
I do, too. He is only one step away from declaring himself a Dem, except IMO he's holding out to be McCain's Veep pick.... only McCain will not be our pick so, yes, I hope Graham is gone in 08... we are already down and out, so purge the RINO's once and for all.... they don't have to be hard righties, but damn it all they should support the GOP and none of this gang of 14 stuff.
Can you help me with a source for this?
I like J.D's chances when the 23% of the vote is counted, represented by 100K absentee ballots.
Alan Keyes organization, renewamerica.xx, obviously is okay with calling Rush out for being a Republican shill.
Apparently it's okay to be a Republican candidate--you just can't shill for one.
Which isn't up to us unilaterally, but that won't stop the people from pretending and acting as though it is.
The Republicans have been changing things since they got in...the changes were too much too fast.
Some people wanted change..back to the status quo.
Plus the unions went ballistic this time...

I agree. The Pauls now outnumber the Peters.
Rush echoed today what Charles Krathmauer already said, the country isn't becoming more liberal, its becoming more conservative. Let the record show that Charles had it right, first.
