“It’s not just committees — our influence within the House Democratic caucus will grow enormously,” Mr. Rangel said in an interview.
To that end, he sketched out an expansive federal agenda: Teaming up with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on gun control, passing new tax incentives for urban job programs, and redirecting federal money to New York in return for the outsize tax collections that the federal government makes here.
“Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?” Mr. Rangel said.

Not by much. As I said, I'm no fan of the place and I could tell you stories that would curl your hair but I know too many good people who happened to be born in Harlem and still live there to lump them in with the scum.

Did anyone notice the tone of the article or any articles about Rangle and his comment about Mississippi. Did you notice how the articles seemed to make excuses for Rangle? Now, juxtapose those news articles with the ones written about the baseball player who made comments about freaks on the NY subway a few years ago. The press mercilessly vilified him even though he was correct.
I can't remember the players name but I believe he was about to be traded from Atlanta to NY.
Or Trent Lott, who was forced out of his job.
