Charlie Rangel: "Who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?" (..Said the Man From Harlem!!)

Charlie Rangel opens his mouth...and mocks the South: (hat tip: reader CRB)
Its not just committees our influence within the House Democratic caucus will grow enormously, Mr. Rangel said in an interview.
To that end, he sketched out an expansive federal agenda: Teaming up with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on gun control, passing new tax incentives for urban job programs, and redirecting federal money to New York in return for the outsize tax collections that the federal government makes here.
Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who the hell wants to live in Mississippi? Mr. Rangel said.

Well, you can't safely leave your house or your car unlocked in Harlem.

That sounds about right! I am enjoying the conversation on this thread- heres hoping internet shopping restaurant chains and cable news etc dont blend out or drown out some of the regional differences that I find so fun about the U S. Gotta run yall have a good night! For Ms natives...'Tell your momanem I said Hey!'

I thought I was in a Cheech & Chong movie. He actually scared me a bit, but my waist was up around my shoulders back then so nobody messed with me much. LOL!

A few square blocks of Harlem real estate are worth more than several counties' worth of Mississippi land, these days.

Aren't there many poor blacks (and whites - but Dems don't care about that) in MS? Rangel really is a disgusting piece of work. He is the guy who pushed the return of the draft, and frequently lies about who is serving in the military. He is a dirtbag.

That sounds delicious! I love Japanese Food and when you can find one that really does the trick that's key. I could not find any Japanese resturants in MS when I was there. Believe you me Trader Joe's is missing the boat for not building thier store in the south they would be billionaires IMO!

Yes, but there's just something wrong about Thai food or Sushi in MS. Broaden your mind!! There are a lot of oriental folks living in MS now! There was an awesome Thai restaurant in Ocean Springs a few years ago. Don't know if it survived Katrina, but I do know there is a Japanese restaurant in the town now. I saw several oriental restaurants in Gulfport when we were there a couple of weeks ago. Before Katrina wiped out their neighborhoods, there were likely a bunch of small Vietnamese resaurants in East Biloxi catering to the large population drawn by the fishing and shrimping industy.

Yeah, yeah, but do they use GULF shrimp?! Even our #1 son, who has never lived in the South since he was 10 months old, can tell the difference.

Waffle House, though the quality of cleanliness is variable from store to store, makes the BEST hash browns I've ever tasted at two in the morning. ;o)

Rangel really is a disgusting piece of work. Well, we like it like that. As long as he spread that opinion around his peer group, then the really disgusting people stay put and we get the good folks who come down South and stay.
We don't get offended - We are happy that folks like him have that opinion!

Charlie has a new book in the works. The working title is

Time for me to scoot out of here.
Have a GREAT evening! Thanks for the conversation.

And with the dems in control those federal contracts would head north. To where? From what I've been able to tell, only Ingalls in Pascagoula and Bath Iron Works in Maine have the equipment necessary to build the ships. Bath can't get them all because there would be too much of a backlog.
Don't forget, MS has its share of Dem legislators, Bennie Thompson and Gene Taylor are two with some seniority, and Gene is already saying he'll keep working hard for the state. In fact, he actually said, after the election, that he regretted that the Dems were taking over the Senate because MS Sen. Thad Cochran was Chairman of one committe and Sen. Lott was still pretty powerful in the Repub. leadership. He considers them both extremely important for the state.
