Charlie Rangel: "Who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?" (..Said the Man From Harlem!!)
http://michellemalkin.com/archives/006337.htm ^

Posted on 11/09/2006 12:43:12 PM PST by WBL 1952

Charlie Rangel opens his mouth...and mocks the South: (hat tip: reader CRB)

“It’s not just committees — our influence within the House Democratic caucus will grow enormously,” Mr. Rangel said in an interview.

To that end, he sketched out an expansive federal agenda: Teaming up with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on gun control, passing new tax incentives for urban job programs, and redirecting federal money to New York in return for the outsize tax collections that the federal government makes here.

“Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?” Mr. Rangel said.

I love this reply: From the Coast to the Delta to the Pinebelt to the Hills and across Mississippi, there is beauty in every city, charity in every heart, love in every church, and majesty in every countryside. When I travel this state I see it in the resolute handshakes, the hospitable smiles, and the sincere prayers of our neighbors: we love Mississippi and we are proud and happy to live here,” Pickering said. Pickering concluded, “Last year, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi Coast. We have been working hard not only to rebuild our own homes and communities, but also to repair and protect the network of refineries, pipelines, and transmission grids that supply energy, gas, and oil to the rest of the country, including New York. If Mr. Rangel believes those efforts required more than our fair share of federal money, he is welcome to send that energy back to our state and find an alternative supply... Go get your own gas, Chuckles.

This is a discussion that is very close to my heart as an American. It pains me that folks talk of NYC as if it's a foreign country in the same way it pains me that folks in NYC talk about Alabama, Kansas, etc. the same way.

For better or for worse, NYC, Alabama, Kansas, etc. are part of the same nation. The farmer in Alabama can lay claim and take pride in NYC as a remarkable achievement of his nation in the same way that someone in NYC can lay claim and take pride in the blessings of the furtile farm belt.

Everything else is nonsense.

So Rangel is already talking GUN CONTROL?

I've said all along that if the Dems take the house, you will see the assault weapons ban re-introduced. Remember that Tom Delay stopped it in committee. There were possibly enough votes to pass it in the old Republican-controlled house to say nothing of the new Democrat-controlled one. The Senate had more than enough votes to pass it had it made it that far and Presidnet Bush said he would sign it if it makes it to his desk.

Infrastructure is expensive, education is expensive -- some of these less densely populated states cannot carry the burden by themselves. The entire country benefits when there are smarter people in Miss. or Alabama. We're in big trouble the second we start dividing up Fed. cash by State

Wonder how Morgan Freeman feels about that comment.

*snort* I saw an interview one night, some goober talking to Morgan Freeman about his new Blues Club in Cleveland MS. The man asked him, "Why on earth would you move back to Mississippi?". Morgan just got this astonished look on his face and said, "Because it's my HOME!"

I was so proud of that man!

I'm not going to say "I told you so." I'm not, I'm not, I'm not.

And once again, Rangel is allowing people to think he's black and has a congenital predisposition against "racist"
Mississippi. He's not black.

No offense to the people who live and love Mississippi but I have to say the food and the markets suck there!

New York has some of the most finest eateries in the US.
You won't ever find Italian Food in MS like NYC....

Oh and the shopping as well no comparrison.

It's just whatever floats your boat I guess.

Look longer term. Where are new domestic factories being built? Where will high tech go when Fla, Tx, Al and NC become too expensive and less pro business?

I'm not the one who is proposing this. Charlie Rangel is.

I'm not sure there's going to be that many factories left in 20 years. A couple months ago I shared a cab with a real live woman from Victoria's Secret. Actually, not a model but a production person.

This was a good thing, since I read that the company recently designed a new machine that can manufacture a bra in a completely automated fashion. I asked if that meant the garment segment would come back to the U.S. -- a bunch of automated machines to make clothing. She laughed at me. Literally, she laughed. She said it was still cheaper -- even with the new bra making machine -- to make stuff in China or Vietnam.

You hit the nail on the haed with that comment.

The south has some beautiful areas no doubt about that, but when I was there, I observed more overweight, obese people due to thier eating habits. I am sure grits, gravey and biscuits are good eating but I think we have finally realized that fried greasy foods can cause a host of medical problems for folks..
