New RNC Chair?
Fox News
Posted on 11/09/2006 12:27:27 PM PST by Bluegrass Conservative
I was just watching Fox News. Carl Cameron mentioned that Ken Mehlman will most likely step down as RNC Chair this January. Among potential replacements, he mentioned Bill Owen (Governor of Colorado) and Michael Steele (Lt. Governor and 2006 Senate nominee from Maryland).
At first glance, I really like the idea of Steele leading the party. He has both elected and party experience. Your thoughts?

Did I hear him say that there wouldn't be "much change" in the leadership in the GOP houses? Except for Hastert and Frist, of course?

Owen would be rewarding failure where success was possible.
Steele is due this promotion for running the best losing race of all time. Bad state, bad year.

Steele would be an excellent choice -- Articulate and photogenic. He would be a perfect face for the Republican Party.

Did I hear him say that there wouldn't be "much change" in the leadership in the GOP houses? I heard him say there wouldn't be much change in Senate leadership. Reid and Durbin will be the majority leaders. McConnell (whoo hoo for the Bluegrass boy!) and Alexander will be the minority leaders.

I've met Steele a few times, my family has a professional relationship with him, and I thought he would win.
He's got a bright future, but I ask this...at a time when we need to get serious about core values, does Steele have the experience to take over the entire show? Not yet, in my opinion. We shouldn't be looking for someone who will need to learn on the job. But the man is a rising star.

IMO, from the things I have read, Steele seems like a moderate to me.
