President Bush yesterday said he will team up with Democrats to pass an immigration bill with a guest-worker program that his own party blocked this year, and his Republican opponents predicted a bloody intraparty fight but said they cannot stop such a bill from passing.
"We will fight it, we will lose. It will go to the Senate, it will pass. The president will sign it. And it will happen quickly because that's one thing they know they can pass," said Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican and chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus, who had led the opposition to a guest-worker plan. "I am absolutely horrified by this prospect, but I have to face reality."
Mr. Bush supported a bipartisan majority in the Senate this year that passed a broad immigration bill including a new worker program and citizenship rights for millions of illegal aliens. But House Republicans blocked those efforts, calling them an amnesty, and instead forced through a bill to erect nearly 700 miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Bush's legacy. The demise of the republican party.
I for one will not give the republicans one penny, ever again. The moderates won on Tuesday.
Is he really so cuddled up to illegals and the businesses hiring him that he's willing to throw away his own party's chances of ever winning an election again?
What an awful, awful President.
What an awful, awful President.
If Bush really cared about the GOP, he would veto any immigration reform bill, i.e., amnesty or legalization of status. Besides being the right thing to do, this could be a winning issue for the Reps in 2008 as long as McCain isn't heading the ticket.
Yes. It appears so.
He isn't going to veto anything like that. This is what he has wanted for a long time. He had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the fence bill and only signed it because he knew it would never get built, that he could sign his scamnesty bill after the 2006 mid term elections. He could have done the right thing prior to the 2006 mid term elections and helped the republicans. He didn't, so why would he cave at this last hour when he finnaly can get what he wanted?
I understand how you feel. I am upset also. I just don't believe, pure conservatism would have made a difference. We are a center right country in my opinion. This is how the Dems won-by appealing to their base and the center right.
Good luck. It will come from a Repub Pres, Dem and Repubs in congress. We can fight, but I tell you, they (all pols) are bound and determined to do this.
They will govern as liberals which they probably are to begin with...they are moderate, conservatives only until election day.
He didn't listen to the majority of the people in this country that were opposed to open borders and scamnesty. He put himself and his wants above all else. This became the hot button issue for a LOT of people, because he was pushing it so often. I think the republican would have held congress if he never had mentioned his illegal workers/scamnesty program.
Agree 100%. History will not be kind to GWB, unless it's Mexican history.
IF
And I would support whatever investigation the Dems want to do on Bush and his admin. if amnesty passes. If this comes to pass, I wouldn't mind if he did a perp walk.
It's everything.
Vicente has promised to buy him a new, red party dress and matching accessories when they go out to celebrate the passage of their amnesty plan.
LOL!
I won't be impeaching him, the Dems will. The difference is I won't carry his water.
I don't see how the two issues are related.
I just saw Bush and Calderone on TV. Calderone wants the U.S. to fund education in Mexico and not build a fence.
Calderone and the PAN leftests are the worst possible choices to run Mexico at this time. It looks like the little twit is asking for help in Oaxaca according to a spokes person named Lopez.
