We have lost a battle. We have not lost the war.

Conservatives need to see this as an opportunity, NOT a disaster.

To start with NEW Congress, NEW Leadership. Time for a hard charging no nonsense leadership in the US Senate and US House.

Time for the Republican Insurgency to teach the Democrats what a REAL quagmire looks like.

They wanted it. They lied to the American people about their real agenda to get it. Let them enjoy their Phyrric victory in 2006. They won most races by a few thousands votes. Let them go home in 2008 and try to defend their record of voting for Ms Nancy and Hillary Clinton's Big Socialist Agenda after running as Republican Lite in 2006.

Our job going forward is prevent them from doing too much damage between now and then

This is the worst press conference that I've ever heard. "W" sounds totally shell shocked.

I know that you have said before that Snerdly lurks here. If so, I wish he would get Rush to answer What do we do now. I'm resolved that this is what we have for 2 years now, but what should we Republicans do now to ensure that the party now moves in the right direction. I email my Senators and Reps. frequently, but I am from a state that has strong conservatives, so how do I help the Republican party move towards the right and to stop being lukewarm?

What do you think about this, Johnnie?

My thinking is that the new house and senate minority leaders need to fight Bush just as much as the Dems in order to come out of this with a viable party at all for 08.

I agree with Rush and his view of Clinton's last two years of his term.

I see this as Custer's Last Stand:

Custer sees the indians surrounding him and decides to surrender himself and agree to all terms of surrender. The troops are left to fend for themselves. Custer goes down in history with his reputation as a uniter intact.

Bush needs to hire a public relations/media expert. His press conference was terrible. He needs some clear messages, sound bites. And he needs to become better prepared than the past.

He also needs new advisors. How can you let Pelosi and the media totally set up the Rummy resignation? The media and dem have the sound bites all set up. Otherwise he needs to get off the stage!

I enjoy Rush but a great deal of his claim to fame is his certainty. He believes a few basic things and decides all things by this ideological certainty. Isiah Berlin would term Rush a "hedgehog" in the sense he sticks to his ideology and little or nothing else.

On the other hand the President is more of a "Fox." Isiah Berlin described these people as flexible, reflective and prone to self criticism.

Of course people vary on the Fox/Hedgehog continuum and may change from one to the other over time.

Hedgehogs are like Churchill. When they succeed they do so memorably. Foxes are more flexible according to the circumstances they find and Eisenhower would be an example.

It is easy to pick apart a Fox but it is hard to run the world on the limited ideology of hedgehogs.

Rush "feels liberated"!

I do too!

I've quoted him saying the phrase "carrying the water" a number of times and I understand EXACTLY what he means.

Thanks Rush!

Who do you folks think the next wave of conservative leadership will be? Mike Pence? Others?

I think that conservatives are hungry for a REAL candidate and will mobilize behind one - if we can get one!

The ironic thing about that is that some polls showed that the Republican party is now seen as the party of Big Government, not the Democrats. Boy, are these idiots ever in for a surprise!

In a 24-hour period that felt like it couldn't get any worse and it did, Rush helped save me from total desperation. Now it's onward and upward, folks.

Limbaugh posted the transcript, and started out with this:

The president was passionate about one thing in this press conference. He came alive when he was asked a question about: What does this mean for your immigration policy? "Yes, I think we have a better chance of getting immigration reform now with a Democrat-controlled Congress."

I told you this before the election. I told you, "The reason we don't have amnesty and a guest worker program is because of the Republicans in the House." Now with Democrats running the place you're going to get it and the president's excited about it. We're going to get a guest worker program. We're going to get amnesty. It's going to be called "immigration reform," and you're going to get a minimum wage increase. The president's going to talk to these people about entitlements -- and when you sit down with Democrats to talk about entitlements, you're not talking about getting rid of them. You're talking about "reforming" them, maybe, or perhaps even new ones.

Rush can claim that he was talking about it before the election, but many of us here have been talking about Bush's enthusiasm for some kind of amnesty/guest worker for much longer than that (and Bush has never hid it, except when pressed by Republicans).
