Almost seems like he is trying to drive the GOP away.

Which guy are you referring to? Are you saying that our President wants this war won at all costs but the Secretary Of Defense is the one pulling punches?

Exactly - Rumsfeld is just a bureaucrat - he enacts whatever policy Bush & Cheney & Rice tell him to enact.

Dubyah is the one who flinched, and decided not to visit Armageddon upon the Muslims, and the result is that the Muslims were emboldened and realized that they could "win" this thing at the ballot box, just like the Russkies & Chicoms & North Koreans did in the Korean "War" [really the Korean "Nation-Building Exercise"], and just like the Russkies & Chicoms & North Vietnamese did in the Vietnam "War" [really the Vietnamese "Nation-Building Exercise"].

The irony of all of this is that Dubyah forcefully renounced the whole idea of nation-building exercises during the 2000 debates with Al Gore, and if he had only stuck to those promises, then everything would be hunky-dory today.

This is unbelievable. If he was going to fall on his sword why didn't he do it months ago? I am pissed.

If that happens, I may just go over the edge.

Hang in there. :)

Well, maybe a new strategy will be a good thing.

The President suffers a humiliating defeat at the hands of anti-American nutjobs....and he throws them Rumsfeld? Has Bush lost his mind?!

This is all about a deal with the Dems. I willing to bet a lot of money Pelosi said, Rummy is out or we begin impeachment proceedings.

Why now and not two weeks ago? This is crap.

***

Wasn't it within the last week or so that the President said he still had confidence in Mr. Rumsfield, blah-blah-blah...the usual BS?

I guess we should learn that when the President comes out with such huge amounts of praise for someone, that person's days are numbered.

How do you know it wasn't Rummy himself who wanted to get the Hell out of Dodge?

I agree. He picked a hell of a day to do it! Not that I would like it to happen to Rummy any day.

It's like when a coach gets the dreaded "vote of confidence" from the owner, you know he's doomed.

The resignation doesn't seem to be completely voluntarily. Things change fast in politics.

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, a key target of Iraq war critics, gave no indication Wednesday that he planned to step down in the wake of Democratic midterm election gains, his chief spokesman said. Eric Ruff, the Pentagon press secretary, said he participated in meetings with Rumsfeld on Wednesday morning and heard no talk of changing war strategies or of Rumsfeld leaving his post.

This is what I was thinking. He might have decided it was just better to get out now.

Let's make a pact to stay the heck out the Bushes! Let them sail away.

Damn! How does he explain this to his troops?!

I'm so angry I could just spit.
