Subtle gong alert, scrolled on the bottom of the screen.
The President is still the most powerful person in the government. You need 2/3 vote in both Houses of congress to over-ride a presidential veto. If he plays hardball, and we all must encourage him and the GOP leadership to do so, we can continue to win the war on terror.
Well, Americans believed the rat liars....so let's see if the terrorist think that they've now got an opening to attack on US soil. Unfortunately...I think they think because of the loss that's a sign to attack us. I think the clock is ticking...tic toc tic toc
Your're so right. The only one with guts enough to take on the liberal media is Lynne Cheney.
I'll vote for her in 08
In 2000 we did no forsee what was coming in 2002.
We can only hope as much. IMO, a more likely first order of business is a "no illegal alien left behind" proposal.
"The Republicans lost because they abandonned the conservative principles espoused by Ronald Reagan and acted like 'moderate' democrats instead."
And the dems won b/c they started acting like republicans. Go figure
In other words, each election is different.
If we had lost by a massive margin of 40 or 50 in the House or lost 10 or so in the Senate, it would have been a severe problem, one we could not overcome for a decade probably.
But, it is not that bad. We can probably start changing things around soon, perhaps 2008 if we have our act together, or at least 2010. We may not be able to take back the House until 2012, however.
I think so AND hope so. You don't sacrifice American service personnel to the PC gods by trying to fight a half-assed LBJ war. "Oh, no! We can't pour it on in Iraq! If we do that, CNN and the French will call us Nazis!" This is why we lost this election. Americans hate losing wars and losing troops, and to be quite frank, they'd rather have Iraqis die than to lose more troops. Me too.
Hopefully the incoming SecDef will realize war is about killing people and breaking things, not about PR campaigns, press conferences, and restrictive rules of engagement. The fact that shock and awe never happened says all you need to know about how this war was and is being fought. In their heart of hearts, the American people do not want to pull out of Iraq. They know that would send the wrong message. They want to WIN Iraq and we need a SecDef who is willing to do what it takes.
I posted virtually the identical sentiments last year, as have many others over the six years of the now defunct GWB presidency. By remaining "above the fray", GWB has done more than his share in losing the fray.
Add to my list A vote to show total support for Israel in their fight against the Palies and Gazans.
I will really be hoping yours isn't the first order of business! :)
But going to war was popular in 2003 (for most Democrats, even). The job needs to be finished.
Oddly enough, I have a feeling that if Iraq was not invaded in 2003, we may have had a Democrat President and House two years ago.
The reason being that the war was still pretty fresh in 2004, and lots of folks who were independent or conservative Democrat thought "Well, I'll vote for Bush since we are at war and we need to finish."
But just two years later, it's almost as if people are getting restless and tired and ticked off at Republicans. And I don't think that's entirely fair since war and liberation and trials and executions take time. The American people need more patience, IMO.
What county are you in? I lived in Anne Arundel county for all my life save these last three years in Delaware.
Make no mistake, I think your analysis is on the money, spot on in fact. I left MErryland because property taxes were killing me. That state slams it to the few who actually pay taxes and what happens is that, well, they LEAVE.
Electing O'Malley was one HUGE mistake and I agree, the few remaining taxpayers in Merryland will leave just like we did.
However, my main point was that if Conservative principles win uber alles, how come a real creep like O'Malley won when Bob Ehrlich did a wonderful job, even with that corrupt Merryland legislature skewering the guy at every opportunity?
So you explain the current Merryland demographic and you are correct.
Which brings me to my summation...conservative principles DO NOT win in those places where people just plain want to misbehave, who have no self-control, who don't want to work, who expect the government to do their bidding.
Thus,:::tada::::, conservative principles do NOT win simply because there are not enough people left to vote them in.
It's what this country has become, we may as well face it, folks. Way I see it, a sudden dip in this great economy and a terrorist attack or two might bring us back to reality. Sad we always have to learn the hard way but it is, as those of us who are parents completely understand, the absolute BEST way to learn.
Nevermind that we haven't had a terrorist attack since 9/11 and never mind the economy is booming like it never did under even Clinton. I am old enough to remember Jimmy Carter, his "general malaise", astronomical home interest rates and long gas lines. So much of this population does NOT remember this.
It's like children, you tell them not to go there but they never believe it until it happens to them.
It's my story and I'm sticking to it.
No Comprehendo. Hablo Espaneol?
Bush writing his OWN Legacy ... bump! bump! bump!
Whether paraphrased or quoted, I love it's truth.
They lost this election for us and maybe the war and they still come back for more..aren't they precious?
He will announce that starting in 2007, Democrats' are
responsible for Global Warming and every other conspiracy.
Let the games begin.LOL!
The people that sat out this election in protest are more to blame than GW. You, yourself are now more at risk from terrorism because Pelosi runs Congress now. Blame can be pointed at conservatives that constantly bashed our party when we wer eat war, like Michelle Malkin, Rich Lowery, Bill Kristol, Michael Savage, Laura Ingram, et all. The first rule in war is not to let the enemy separate you and out flank you. Well conservatives did because of disunity.
