Doug county elected a Dem commissioner??

Amazing...

I saw with my own eyes the apathy here. I've volunteered at the local GOP for many years, and we ALWAYS have broken-glass Pubbies and pro-lifers helping us out.

The volunteers this year were miniscule, a fraction of years' past.

I don't understand it st all.

Ed

Jezebelle, you don't have an inkling.

And there are sixteen inklings in a clue...

"I voted straight R... how did we let down the GOP?? Might be the other way around but as far as the Libertarians they DID take crucial votes away from the GOP and they didn't have a chance to win in the first place."

If you're going with that track why not just Say the Democrats took your votes, that is just as plausible!

Apparently the Libertarian message got through to those people who voted for the Libertarian guy. Blaming someone for being successful is no way to win votes. (yes they got people to vote for them there fore they succeeded i getting votes.)

WTHR Indianapolis

This is Sodrel's Indiana 9 district!!

Dem Poll Worker/Vote Counter caught red handed with vote machine keys, Storage locker keys, and "Several" blank absentee ballots!!

From the Bloomington, Indiana Herald-Times, but requires subscription:

FBI asked to look into Monroe ballot issue; 20 absentee ballots in question
The FBI questioned Monroe County election officials today about ballot security issues, acting on a complaint from Republican officials.

"WE should stay the course, but in the worst case scenarios it will be a Sunni minority that is harmed-- not all 27 million people of Iraq. "

Surely the worst case Scenario is a clear Shi-ite dominated Iraq emerging that becomes best buddies with Iran?

My spin on the whole thing is that the reasons for war where sound, the execution of the main war were sound, the one big mistake was disbanding the army and sending the signal that we were at war with Sunni's rather than real Ba'athists. (Just because a guy was in the Baath party doesn't mean he was a baathist - you kind of had to join the party to have any kind of job). Had we kept those instutions we disbanded but purged only the real hard core saddam cronies, I don't think we would be facing a Shi'ite dominated Iraq in the medium term.

But that's all hindsight now. We are where we are, and we have to stay the duration because the alternative is terrifying.

We got our base to the polls and they overwhelmingly supported our candidates.

I don't believe we got our base out...

Looks like all Republicans from the most conservative (Santorum) to the most liberal (Chaffee) and everyone in between lost big,

The GOP's lack of response to the illegal immigration marches this spring severely depressed the base. This coupled with out of control speneding resulted in a 5% to 10% 'headwind' that all of the GOP candidates ran against.

Some GOP candidates who usually win by 25 points, like Trent Lott, could absorb it with no problem, but for those that faced tight races it was just too much to overcome.

I didn't say that.. I was pointing out the futility of voting for a 3rd party that doesn't have a chance in hell of winning.. a Libertarian voter has more in common with the GOP than a Rat.. considering what was at stake here I think they threw there vote away and helped the Rats.. that was my point.

Persians and Arabs loathe each other too much for that to continue long term.

I'm sorry to say this......but it looks like "shrugging" is exactly what happened today in this country. I lived through that same attitude during Viet Nam. And it's sickening. I'm more sad than angry.....and heartbroken.

I'm English so I don't know much about how your elections work, but looking at CNN it seems that there are nine counties in Montana still reporting:

hill – moderate dem county
cascade – moderate dem county
deer lodge – strong dem county
glacier – moderate rep county
flathead – moderate rep county
fergus – moderate rep county
judith basin – moderate rep county
gallatin - even
lake - even

OK. Perhaps you are right. I heard differently throughout the day. Perhaps it was hype. I hold to my belief that we got our base and narrowly lost independents. Look at the closeness of all of these House and Senate races -- the RATS have won them all by an eyelash!

WOW! Burns has closed to about 8300 behind Tester, but that's still quite a bit to make up given that all but about 5-6 counties are in.

Remember earlier today when we were all reading about the 'record' turnouts from RNC Chief Mehlman? You know what - I still believe him, & that's what ticks me off the most right now.

When it's all said & done, I bet the #'s show more Rep's than Dems voted this election, and, here's the part that has me ticked, a lot of Republicans didn't vote Republican. I'll use a local example. I live in Placer County, California, arguably the most conservative county in the state (about 70-30 Republican). Most of the California Republican ticket is running very solidly Republican (around 70-30)...except Congressman Doolittle, who is basically tied w/ Cindy Sheehan pal Charlie Brown at 50/50. That is sad.
